Firm Summary/ObjectiveA Business Planning Law Firm is a quickly growing, full-service trust and estates law firm. The Firm takes pride in simplifying complex matters for clients – handling a range of different types of cases in the trust and estates arena including simple and complex proactive estate planning, disability trust administration, post-death trust administration, conservatorship, guardianship, probate, and litigated trust and estates matters. The Firm is seeking an ambitious associate who is eager to grow with our Firm. As an associate, you will handle a range of clients in the both court-related and contested and uncontested matters in the areas of probate, trusts, conservatorship, and guardianship from start to finish.
Essential Functions:
- The associate will enjoy autonomy to run cases and make strategic decisions with the guidance and mentoring of our partner attorneys who have a combined experience of over 25 years in the Trust and Estates industry.
- Conduct all matters in an ethical fashion in accordance with the law and in the interest of the client
- Perform legal research, and prepare legal memoranda in order to effectively advise clients on a range of topics and areas of focus within the scope of the client's matter
- Maintain updated knowledge, and continued learning, in the area of trusts, estates, conservatorship, guardianship, and litigation such as the rules and procedures of court, civil procedure before and during trial, discovery rules, best practices for client management, standards of motion practice, witness preparation and examination, case management, mediation dynamics, and conducting trials
- Develop strategies and arguments to resolve cases favorably and cost-effectively for all assigned clients
- Ensure thorough execution of drafting and reviewing documents as it pertains to assigned cases and projects
- Ensure preparation of legal documents, such as contracts, depositions, pleadings, etc. in a timely manner and that all case/business related materials (records, letters, legal documents, case files, correspondence, financial reports, invoices, etc.) are effectively managed for efficient and high-value client service and case outcomes
- Maintain effective coordination with opposing counsel and other involved parties as needed
- Demonstrate A Business Planning Law Firm's core values and participate in cross-departmental and organizational planning and volunteer efforts as needed
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
This is a full-time position with standard hours of work being Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 5:00PM with occasional evening and weekend work required as business needs and job duties demand
A reliable means of travel/transportation to and from company office(s) is expected
Occasionally, out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected

Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Preferred 2 years of experience in trust and estates practice or related experience
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the California State Bar in good standing
- Experience in, and knowledge of, handling court matters, including litigation
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, manage time, prioritize work, and delegate effectively to subordinates
- Proficient communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to effectively research, read, interpret, and organize information with accuracy and consistency
- Ability to remain focused and professional
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels within a diverse and fast paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams) and Adobe Acrobat
- Working Conditions, Hours of Work, and Travel: This role operates in a professional office environment with use of standard office equipment (e.g., computers, internet, phones, filing cabinets)
- Upland, CA 91786: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
- Interest in finance and accounting a plus, but not required.
- Licensed Notary Public a plus, but not required.
