Job description

Animal Husbandry:

Functions in a lead role on specific projects or in specific areas. Assists in coordinating daily activities in the Vivarium and monitors work progress on the floor. Acts as a coordinator on weekends and holidays providing regulatory and supervisory oversight. Delegates husbandry tasks and plans for completion of work. Performs daily husbandry of any species housed regardless of housing systems or housing locations. Follows department procedures to perform husbandry tasks. Appropriately uses resources in support of the animal program. Leads and physically supports the receiving and housing of research species, including preparing for the housing activity. Assures duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner not to impact pipeline activities and/or integrity of regulatory expectations. Uses experience and training to make decisions to execute daily responsibilities to support Animal Care operations, consults with leadership for more complex husbandry issues. Performs tasks both efficiently and proficiently in the workplace. Works well with others in a team environment. Performs other husbandry related tasks as assigned.

Facility Support:

Provides leadership and oversight in the maintenance of vivarium and support areas by properly executing assigned tasks and overseeing the performance of daily tasks of others. Performs daily activities involved with disinfecting and sanitizing rooms and equipment. Prepares spaces to support running hydrogen peroxide cycles as necessary in support of facility operations. Requests the purchase of needed materials to maintain adequate inventory of necessary supplies to maintain consistent support of the animal areas. Problem solves and takes initiative to handle issues autonomously and works with leadership for complex issues in support of animal facility operations. Initiates work orders. Reports facility concerns on time with the appropriate amount of detail. Ability to drive the company vehicle for business purposes as requested. Performs other facility support tasks as assigned.

Documentation and Communication:

Accurately documents and reports non-compliances in accordance with regulatory expectations, troubleshoots errors and works with Leadership to prevent errors in the future. Documentation style must be neat, organized, and consistent with departmental standards. Prepares raw data for archiving. Applies computer skills to maintain an efficient work environment. Assists in the improvement and development of departmental documentation. Develops and improves interpersonal relations through coursework, coaching, or self-direction. Helps to create material for presentation in public settings. Performs other documentation and communication tasks as assigned.

Training/Compliance:

Assists in the orientation of new employees and the training of lesser experienced staff. Provides technical husbandry and facility support training to staff. Coaches and mentors staff in the performance of daily tasks. Assists in the development of new training materials, presents to small groups. Follows assigned training progress plans while training others and appropriately documents training on the job. Reports gaps in training program and assists to make improvements to better the training process. Maintains regulatory training compliance through completion of computer-based training modules within assigned deadlines. Shadows to learn ancillary positions to have a global perspective of the operations of Comparative Medicine. Works in compliance with all local, federal, GLP, FDA, and USDA regulations. Works effectively and efficiently in a GLP environment. Applies and maintains safety procedures. Performs other training and compliance tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience: HS education and a minimum of four years of experience in a laboratory Animal Care facility AALAS certification at the LAT level, LATG preferred.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
