Position Summary
This member of the IT Strategic Planning, Portfolio, and Governance (SPPG) team looks at the broader horizon and keeps a macro lens to ensure the right things are prioritized for highest value and performance. This advisory role works collaboratively with teams across IT and business areas to facilitate longer range planning for the IT annual portfolio roadmap, performance monitoring, and ongoing management of the IT Strategy progress and updates.
The individual will be responsible for defining best practices for analyzing and monitoring IT performance measures, integrating lean ways of working to find ways for continuous improvement around planning and delivery, researching and identifying new ways of working that we can apply to our operating model, defining ways to measure the business value for IT-led initiatives, as well as setting direction for business engagement.
This role will collaborate closely with their peers on the IT Strategic Planning & Transformation Team in order to effectively implement a strategic design and execution of the broader IT Portfolio Roadmap.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Establish and track Objectives & Key Results (OKRs) that measure maturity across all strategic dimensions within IT Strategy.
  • Design performance analytics dashboards and tools that enable better visibility and diagnostics of portfolio and delivery health.
  • Help establish an IT operating rhythm that enables insight and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) to enable proper remediation and timely adjustments.
  • Collaborate with business partners and customers to identify future business needs and prioritize initiatives/resources/effort on evolving IT Strategy accordingly.
  • Organize and help facilitate the annual Strategic Planning activities to reflect on learnings from current year and identify key initiatives required for upcoming years.
  • Establish and guide best practices for measuring IT value on investment for portfolio delivery items.
  • Tie budget investment decisions to strategic roadmaps, operational projects, and initiatives across multiple departments to enable value-driven conversations for portfolio budget decisions both during annual budget cycle and ongoing throughout the year.
  • Assist with research to define value-centered portfolio practices and enable more agile and dynamic procedures that allow for adjustments in budget and portfolio decisions throughout the year.

  • Leverage differing skillsets and experiences of team members to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts and instill a positive, constructive, and collaborative culture across the team.
  • Leverage relationships with Hess IT, business stakeholders and delivery partners to seamlessly deliver IT solutions.
  • Facilitate working sessions of medium to large-sized groups across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage stakeholders at all levels (including senior leadership) and works with multiple cross-functional teams to take ownership and accountability for program delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Help establish a highly productive, value-driven IT culture.

Qualifications
Education, Training, & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Business, Information Technology, Finance, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • PMP or Agile certification preferred.
  • Lean training / certification preferred.
  • ITIL certification preferred.
  • Experience in oil and gas preferred.

Experience
  • 10+ years of management consulting, portfolio planning, or business analysis role in an organization or similar scale.
  • 7+ years of experience in Information Technology roles.
  • 2+ years of experience in leading small teams and directing work.
  • Expertise in report design and analytics.
  • Experience in process improvement and strategy development.
  • Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders preferred.

    • Prior experience delivering enterprise IT transformation for a large organization.
    • Creative and innovative with strong analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to frame complex problems and develop recommended solutions.
    • Working knowledge of Lean principles and Agile methodology and have a continuous improvement and value-driven mindset.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
    • Should possess ability to convince and manage stakeholders.

    • Liaises closely with other functional E&P groups as necessary.
    • Comfortable at influencing without authority.
