The Advanced Marine Electronics Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on marine vessels. The primary role is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical equipment in the maritime industry. Works with systems such as radar, sonar, GPS, communication devices, navigation equipment, and entertainment systems. Marine Electronics Technicians possess in-depth knowledge of electrical principles, wiring techniques, maritime regulations, and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs installation of electrical systems and equipment.
- Performs inspections, identify any issues or faults, and carry out repairs or replacements.
- Troubleshoots electrical problems, tests equipment, and uses specialized tools to diagnose and fix electrical faults.
- Ensures all electrical systems and installations on the vessel comply with relevant maritime regulations and safety standards to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintains detailed documentation of work, including installation records, maintenance logs, and repair reports.
- Works as part of a team, collaborating with engineers and other technicians.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred Degree: Bachelor's degree in marine engineering
- Certificate(s) or License(s): Preferred Advanced Marine Electronics Installer Certificate
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Marine Electronics installation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- In-depth knowledge of Marine Electronics and how they function.
- Familiar with relevant maritime regulations and safety standards.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimal (less than 5%)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular walking and standing
- Occasional computer work, sitting and lifting up to 50lbs
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
- Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
