The Lead Assembly Technician is responsible for all aspects of assembly, including but not limited to, maintaining production equipment and assemblies, ensuring quality control, and overseeing the manufacturing process. The Lead Assembly Technician position will play a key role within a team that will work together to assemble customers’ products. This position will be based in Wake Forest, NC.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as cables and harnesses
  • Production of wire harness and cable assemblies using hand and/or power tools, including specialized crimpers, drills, soldering tools, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, wire strippers, precision measuring instruments, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering team to correct and improve upon any documents related to the assembly process
  • Route and tie wires to form wire harnesses used in electrical equipment
  • Determine and identify materials needed and sequence of assembly
  • Form wire harness by wrapping and tying wires together
  • Completing the assembly of the harness by color, length of the wire, and marking
  • Inspect products to access compliance with quality standards and requirements
  • Support production needs by moving items between equipment and staging areas
  • Work with other stations on the assembly line to ensure accuracy, speed, and efficiency
  • Schedule regular equipment and tool maintenance and schedule repairs when needed
  • Need to have or learn the ability to specify mating connectors for test harnesses needed for new products and write purchase requisitions for Production Manager sign off
  • Design and build test harnesses for all new product as required by customer
  • Setup programs on inhouse harness test systems for new products as specified by customer
  • Maintain, catalog and neatly organize all test harnesses
  • Order materials needed for production
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of production experience in the electronic components industry is helpful
  • Technical Degree Similar to Associate of Applied Science in Electronics is a plus
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and electrical drawings is a necessity
  • Experience with company property software is helpful
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
  • Experience with company property software is helpful
  • Basic mathematical skills include addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Familiarity with assembly tools, processes, and terminology
  • Must understand proper crimping and stripping methods
  • Ability to distinguish colors is required
  • Ability to work as a team to achieve a high-quality product meeting specifications and customer needs
  • Ability to interpret and follow through on directions
  • Ability to trouble shoot and repair test failures and customer returns
  • Ability to shoe and explain test failures to Production Associates that produced failures and explain proper Techniques for repair and how to avoid the same issues on future builds
  • Team player and ability to motivate the team members
