Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an Adult Education Instructor for the 2023-2024 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!As an Adult Education Instructor, you are required to:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of two (2) years of classroom tutoring/teaching/substitute teaching or related experience
- Ability to obtain an Adult Education license issued by the Ohio Deparment of Education (this can be done upon hire)
- Works in collaboration with other Adult Education classroom teachers and district personnel to coordinate and implement identified research-based interventions which focus specifically on individual and/or small group adult student needs.
- Responsible for teaching Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED and GED courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting. Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the GED tests and/or enhance basic education skills.
- Administer TABE tests to determine individual progress. Creating a climate that encourages and supports learning.
- Assit students with employability and soft skills for job readiness.
- Evaluate and monitor student's performance, and helps students identify and pursue personal goals.
- Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure timely submission of data
- Designs and writes reading and/or math intervention lesson plans in alignment with the Springfield City School District's (SCSD) best practices and resources.
- Identifies students' reading and/or math strengths and weaknesses and matches these skills with appropriate SCSD strategiesand resources.
- Provides documentation of activities and data associated with student learning.
- Engage and communicate with students and staff
- Manage students with avarying academic and social/emotional needs
- Maintain confidentiality, especially with regard to student information
- Performs other duties as assigned
Training is provided by the Springfield City School District at no cost to you.
Wage is $23.01 per hour.
Hours and days vary up to 28 hours per week and are assigned by Family Outreach Connections Coordinator
Adult Education Instructors are temporary at will employees and work on an as needed basis.
