Description
The Lead Instructor for the Aspire Programs is responsible for serving as a liaison between the Aspire instructors and the Project Director. The Lead Instructor supports, develops, and implements cohesive and comprehensive practices for the Clark State Aspire programs - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and High School Equivalency (HSE) - through excellence in teaching. Within this, the Lead Instructor will participate in the recruitment of potential students, assist with orientations, and provide support in the maintenance of incoming data that affects the students time within the classroom. The Lead Instructor will also maintain an active teaching load, which may include locations in Clark State's four-county service area. This position is funded through a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education that has been continuously renewed at Clark State for 15+ years. The current grant cycle ends on 6.30.2024 and will renew on 7.1.2024. It will be up for renewal again on 6.30.2027.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Reviews and makes changes to curriculum in order to stay current with instruction in the classroom with support from the Project Director.
2.
Stays current on best practices in Adult Education Programs and English language learners and ensures Aspire staff are trained and effective in such practices.
3.
Approaches teaching and administrating through a trauma-informed/responsive lens.
4.
Teaches Aspire classes (both ESOL & ABE/HSE/GED).
5.
Attends all necessary professional development and conferences.
6.
As appropriate, offers training on best practices for teaching adult learners.
7.
Assists with new student orientation, assessments, and onboarding.
8.
Works with Aspire team members to ensure data accuracy.
9.
Assesses instruction with support from Project Director per state guidelines
10.
Assists the Project Director in leading staff meetings and in-house retreats.
11.
All other duties assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Part-time staff as needed
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in education or closely related field required, master's preferred
• Minimum of three years' experience classroom teaching
• Experience with remedial curriculum instruction and development
• Effective in supporting English language learners and adult learners
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Experience working collaboratively in a group/team environment
• Ability to work effectively with people (students, staff, faculty, college leaders)
• Ability to identify and solve problems; excellent oral and written communication skills
• Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, and presentation software
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and fluid environment, serving populations with varied skills and needs
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, faculty, and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed in an office-like environment with a minimal amount of noise.
