Position Summary

The Administrative Support Coordinator II for the School of Public Health provides Administrative Support to a complex academic program and includes support functions for the school, faculty, students and staff. The position is responsible for the coordination, planning, and implementation of a variety of administrative and complex clerical activities. The clerical and administrative work is typically operational or procedural in nature relating to the program, office, or projects and includes ongoing, complicated projects with a visible impact that requires skill in coordinating within the school and with other departments at SDSU and in the community. The ability to organize, direct, and prioritize multiple duties and tasks in a dynamic working environment is an essential requirement. This position operates under the direction of the director of the program and the lead Administrative Support Coordinator.

The Administrative Support Coordinator II is responsible for the school's operational budget and the purchasing needs of the school. This includes supplies, services, equipment, travel, service-learning agreements, student assistants, faculty recruitment efforts, and the coordination of multiple funding sources.

Other duties may include but are not limited to supporting work order requests for facilities, phone systems, and telecom needs. There is also responsibility for  fulfilling room requests for meetings and special events, supporting visa requirements for international faculty and guests, and the creation of flyers and surveys.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The SDSU School of Public Health (https://publichealth.sdsu.edu) is a top 15 public school of public health in the nation and is ranked 23rd among all schools and programs of public health (U.S. News and World Report, 2019 edition). The school has undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs within five established divisions. The doctoral programs are offered jointly with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Student enrollment exceeds 900 students across all programs. The School has strong community partnerships, which enable it to provide practical experience to students.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Requisitioning and purchasing of supplies, services and equipment.
  • Experience with standard purchasing policy and procedures and/or accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated experience tracking complex expenditure budgets.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and external community partners.
  • Experience at CSU or other academic environments.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with purchasing and budget tracking is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,100 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,681 - $6,034 per month.
