ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT – HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION TEAM / LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REPRESENTATIVE

Legal Aid is in seeking a full-time employee to fill two part-time roles, an Administrative Assistant for the Human Rights Protection Team and a Limited English Proficiency Representative to assist with providing language services to our non-English speaking clients.
The Administrative Assistant portion of the role will focus on providing administrative and secretarial support for the Human Rights Protection Team attorneys, paralegals, and supervisor. This position is responsible for opening and closing files, answering phone calls, gathering facts from clients, printing letters and intakes, performing data entry, organizing office supplies, and opening and distributing mail, and other tasks as directed by the team supervisor.
The Limited English Proficiency Representative portion of the role will focus on providing live, simultaneous interpretation for Spanish-speaking clients, utilizing legal terminology and concepts, conducting intake interviews with prospective clients over-the-phone and in person, translating complex legal documents for attorneys, including birth certificates, marriage certificates, affidavits, medical records, and court documents from Spanish to English, facilitating agency-wide Spanish inquiry line, directing calls to appropriate teams, providing resources where appropriate, and translating correspondence to client from English to Spanish.
The qualified candidate must have the following:
- Excellent typing ability
- Excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills
- Microsoft Word proficiency
- Excellent customer service skills
- Legal experience preferred but not required
- Full professional proficiency in Spanish / English (oral, written, and aural)
Salary: $20.51/hour + DOE
