Department Purpose
The department has over 22 academic faculty, over 131 staff, and over 59 student employees (representing 146 FTE) located on the Davis campus and at several off-campus sites. Department has responsibility for 8 college administration and support units as well as 16 Centers and Institutes including core research support facilities, outreach and public service programs, and units that foster interdisciplinary academic collaboration. Departmental missions include academic support for the agricultural, environmental, and human sciences across the college in the areas of fiscal management, agricultural experiment station management, personnel management, fundraising, communications, academic advising, information security, research and outreach support. The department units, centers, and institutes are housed in 47 buildings across central campus as well as other field stations and special facilities. Due to the variety and scale of operations in the department, an essential function of this position includes both hands on management, comprehensive planning, innovation and creative approaches to complex and unusual administrative problems/situations in addition to budget design and oversight, compliance and financial audit responsibilities and systems process improvements.
Job Summary
Department manager is responsible to the Executive Assistant Dean and department chair in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Dean’s Office. Provides leadership and manages the following functional areas: college-wide finance and business operations, human resources, research and laboratory support needs, safety and liability, space use and facilities maintenance, administrative policy and procedures, and Center and Institute administration and support.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Minimum Education/Experience
- Three years or more of increasingly responsible management experience.
- Human resource experience to recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, resolve problems/conflicts, conduct performance management, and build effective service-oriented, team environment.
- Business management experience, manage and oversee a complex academic department in the areas of, space and facility requirements, information technology, and teaching/research laboratory needs.
- Experience in analyzing complex information or problems in an objective manner and derive logical conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, selecting appropriate courses of action for pursuit or recommendations to others, and to resolve conflicts.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Knowledge and experience in complex financial planning and budget analysis in the areas of contract and grant administration.
- Strategic planning, analytical and program evaluation skills to provide sound recommendations continually examine systems and develop or revise to accommodate change requirements.
