Education and/or experience required:
· Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
· Minimum of one (1) year experience in human services for the elderly or other vulnerable populations.
This position assists in the overall administration of the senior center program. The Assistant Director develops, coordinates and conducts educational, recreational, physical fitness and artistic activities and shapes the program creatively, in-person and virtually. The Assistant Director assists with meal service and kitchen operations as well as other essential services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Creatively develops all senior programming, both in-person and virtual. Coordinates, arranges and delivers various recreational, artistic, physical fitness, health related and educational activities designed to improve the quality of life and enhance daily functioning of members.
Assists in the kitchen with the provision of meal service as needed.
Ensures the safety of members and capably handles medical and other emergencies that arise when dealing with an aging population.
Works with staff (director, custodian, cook, driver, volunteers etc.) to ensure that all aspects of service delivery are provided in a manner that upholds the dignity of members.
Program operations, including fiscal and program records and reports; attendance and contributions reports; inventory and billing; data entry.
Program services, including scheduling; organization and operation of breakfast and congregate lunch programs; coordination of transportation services.
Coordination and supervision of volunteers.
Manages the Advisory Council and coordinates trips/activities.
Community Outreach (outside of the center).
Inputs and reconciles all center activities in DFTA’s database.
Designs and produces the Center’s monthly newsletter and outreach materials.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday - Friday. A schedule of 7:00 AM – 3:00PM is required regularly, including in the absence of the Director. Evening hours and weekend hours are required when NYC activates Cooling Centers. Additional hours or adjusted hours may be required to meet program or client needs.
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
· Must complete CPR and AED training every 2 years
· Computer proficiency, including virtual programming abilities.
· Creative abilities & recreational skills such as arts, crafts, exercise, dance, etc.
· Cooking skills and must have/obtain NYC Food Handler’s license.
· Excellent interpersonal skills & organization skills.
