Job Summary
We are hiring for a part-time position. Days and hours are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - 9:00am - 5:00pm for a total of 24 hours.
The Activities Assistant conducts group and individual activities for residents in our in-house home care program in order to fulfill the overall goals outlined in care plans. The Assistant helps to plan, develop, and present activities which include physical, social, intellectual, creative and recreational pursuits, encouraging residents to participate on their own particular functioning and interest level.
Under the direction of the Activities Supervisor, the Assistant is encouraged to utilize materials, space and other available resources, including their own individual talents and abilities. The Activity Assistant also supports physical therapy exercise programs and Pastoral Care programs.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Carries out programs of group activities for residents and contributes input to activity calendar.
- Assists residents on an individual basis as needed i.e. taking them outside, providing music or assisting with an individual activity. Incorporates volunteers into activity programs or working one to one with individuals.
- Plans/prepares required materials for group activities according to individual and group needs and desires. Cleans up after activity, and store supplies.
- Utilizes own skills and/or seeks other help needed to provide creative outlets such as arts and crafts, independent or group projects or classes.
- Performs job related clerical functions such as keeping attendance records and notes. Develops, types, posts and distributes daily schedules.
- Assists group participants, at an individual level, before, during and after group activities, enlisting the help of staff and /or volunteers as appropriate.
- As requested, shops for supplies, obtains videos from public library or Maryknoll Sisters library. Picks up food items ordered from kitchen and sets up for social events. Maintains equipment and ongoing inventory of needed supplies. Communicates need for replenishment.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience in Human Services, preferably in the field of Gerontology.
Previous experience in Activities preferred.
College preferred in Human Services field, with skills appropriate for the position.
Skilled in craft projects that engage the elderly population.
Driver's License helpful.
