Job Summary:

This position is responsible for processing financial transactions including payroll, employee travel claims, deposits, debt setoff transactions, and generating various reports and spreadsheets. This position will record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in AZ360, conduct annual physical counts of fixed assets, and prepare transfer documents relating to fixed assets. Reviews current practices, recommends solutions and develops standard work and training materials, and serves as back up for accounts payable. In addition, this position requires strong verbal and written communication skills.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of fixed assets, and conduct annual physical counts of fixed assets. Prepare all transfers documents relating to fixed assets.
  • Process daily incoming Debt Setoff Transactions to resolve interception triggers as they occur.
  • Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Monitor group email box and communicate with employees regarding payroll entries and travel claims, and policy questions.
  • Administer and process payroll, travel claims, deposits, and reports.
  • Processing all Department travel claims. This task is performed bi-weekly in conjunction with payroll processing to reimburse Departmental employees for expenses incurred during department-sponsored travel.
  • Process department payroll reports to assure time entry accuracy and are approved within deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly accounts payable average pay report. This is an internal report measuring the processing time of the accounts payable function.
  • Complete work steps in a timely and accurate manner as outlined in the audit programs.

  • Generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • The Arizona State General Accounting Manual.
  • Familiarity with state statutes, rules and regulations as they pertain to the Department.
  • Principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government fund accounting and fiscal management.
  • Methods and techniques of data processing as it relates to accounting practices.
  • Techniques in reviewing and analyzing financial data.
  • Computerized products used in accounting systems and processes.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Microsoft Office and the G-Suite/Workplace.

Selective Preference(s):

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related field.
  • 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Previous experience in State Accounting, a plus.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
