Accountant and Bookkeeper
Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC) is a small national nonprofit organization located in Arlington, Virginia. Our mission is to eliminate barriers to treatment for individuals with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
We currently have an opening for a full-time Accountant/Bookkeeper. The person in this role will report to our Chief Administrative Officer and will coordinate with our outside accounting firm to perform our day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and payroll functions. In collaboration with other staff members, the bookkeeper will have primary responsibility for expense reporting and reimbursement, will assist with monthly closing and reconciliation, and will support our preparation for our annual audit.
TAC is based in Arlington, VA, but the position is remote/work-from-home with minimal travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE/RECEIVABLE
· Prepare all vouchers and approved invoices for payment; processes all organization payments in a timely manner.
· Oversee maintenance of accounts payable files and records.
· Generate invoices and track receivables as needed.
· Enter and track revenue and expenses for grants and contracts.
· Assist with processing donations by individuals, foundations, companies or other sources.
· Respond to all vendor and employee inquiries regarding invoices, expenses, and check requests; resolve invoice discrepancies.
· Process and oversee expense reimbursement and reporting.
· Prepare and print accounts payable reports; review and reconcile periodic reports to maintain current reconciliation status for cash and disbursement accounts.
· Assist with monthly closings and bank statement reconciliation.
· Assist with related special projects as required.
PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION
· Perform payroll-related functions including but not limited to processing new hires, status changes, tax changes, wage garnishments, deductions, and direct deposit.
· Review and verify payroll data in a timely manner, calculate overtime and other pay premiums, and enter payroll data.
· Oversee maintenance of payroll records and files including but not limited to sick time and vacation and other accrued leave.
ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
· Assist with preparation of financial statements including but not limited to income statements, balance sheet, cash flow, budget reports, and management reports.
· Reconcile bank and investment-related statements.
· Prepare budget and financial spreadsheets or reports for analysis in collaboration with Chief Administrative Officer and outside accountants.
· Perform daily banking procedures.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a related field required
· 1-3 years of experience performing accounting and bookkeeping functions
· Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are an absolute must
· Ability to respond to and prioritize competing demands
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
· Experience with cloud-based accounting software platforms is required. Experience with Sage/INTACC a major plus.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
