Account Clerk

The Town of Riverhead's Accounting department is looking for an Account Clerk to work a full-time schedule Monday-Friday. This position is provisional. This means, that the person who is offered the position must take the Account Clerk exam the next time it is given and adhere by the Civil Service rule of three.

-Posts financial data in the Town's financial software program that serve as permanent records of transactions

-Maintains spreadsheets for record keeping purposes such as inventory

-Updates automated financial records

-Prepares purchase orders and requisitions

-First audit of vouchers (receipt of goods)

-Second audit of vouchers (receipt of goods)

-Review and enter cash receipt batches into Edmunds

-Audits invoices and purchase orders and ensures compliance with accompanying vouchers

-Maintains a variety of other financial records; Prepares financial and statistical reports of some complexity by drawing data from financial records

-Performs general clerical functions such as typing, correspondence and answering telephones.

Qualifications:

(a) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in computing and registering data in financial records, accounts, or journals; or,

(b) Two (2) years of clerical experience, and six (6) credits in accounting from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State.

NOTE: Education beyond high school from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State including at least three (3) credits in ac­counting per year may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to those who live within the Town of Riverhead
