This position provides direction and leadership for the advising process within the Foster Undergraduate Program and serves as an adviser to enrolled and prospective students. The Associate Director of Advising serves on the UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM leadership team which plans, implements and manages programs, oversees activities for students while establishing goals and strategy for the UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM. This position is one of a working manager who can be successful in his/her own tasks and lead a team to contribute to the success of the Undergraduate Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advising/Student Services (40%)
• Provide leadership for advising services within UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
oAdvise enrolled and prospective undergraduate business students on educational options, program and graduation requirements, and career possibilities.
oAdvise students who are experiencing academic or personal problems and make referrals to appropriate campus resources when necessary.
oAssist students through the University administrative system.
oAct as a resource for other campus advisers.
• Oversee and provide information sessions for prospective students (freshman, transfer): room scheduling, presenter scheduling, website posting, working with partners across campus (Admissions, Odegaard)
• Manage the satisfactory progress process for the UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM.
• Manage the registration and provide academic policy support to the Professional Sales Program.
• Provide oversight of on-line and print publications supporting advising services.
• Manage adviser caseloads as well as new student assignment process.
Staff supervision and motivation (30%)
• Provide direction and supervision to seven professional staff advisers including hiring, performance management, training, discipline, merit and promotion recommendations.
Direct new student orientation activities (20%)
• Manage logistics to assure advising, programs by career/student services and community building fit into overall schedule.
• Liaison with First Year Programs to select centralized orientation sessions and facilitate timing to meet Foster-specific needs.
Time schedule management relating to student access (10%)
• Coordinate with Time Schedule office to assure course restrictions reflect the course catalog and School policies.
• Monitor course enrollments, communicate with faculty quarterly regarding enrollment policies and procedures.
• Manage cross-campus enrollment
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least seven years of advising, admissions, student services, student counseling or related experience
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have significant experience in staff supervision, program implementation plus budget oversight capabilities.
Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment plus an ability to set and meet goals and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
DESIRED:
Energetic self-starter with a get-it done attitude and collaborative disposition. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and articulating ideas clearly in person and in writing.
A willingness to support Foster Undergraduate Programs events and participate fully in a fast-moving team environment where everyone is expected to roll-up their sleeves and contribute whenever possible.
Must be able to work professionally and effectively communicate across various demographics within community organizations, high schools, colleges and the business community (e.g. the Dean and Foster School Leadership, students, alumni, faculty, staff, business partners, donors, and community) for the purpose of building partnerships.
Familiarity with the administrative structure of a large university is highly desirable.
