Job Summary/Description:Academic Advisor, EPI Center, College of Education.
Responsible for academic advising of assigned students in regards to their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, choice of major, and other academic activities and career goals. Academic Advisor supports student affairs and learning through student advocacy, academic preparing, customer service, campus and community referrals, and institutional outreach. Works closely with all campus departments to support student success.
- Advise undergraduate College of Education students in an appropriate and professional manner. Aide students with long term planning, course rotations, course schedules, and degree plans.
- Evaluate and determine use of transfer credits in regards to degree plan application.
- Collect data and maintain records of interactions with students.
- Adhere to FERPA guidelines for the release of student information.
- Develop advising materials and presentations to support student initiatives.
- Coordinate and facilitate for College of Education presentations and other campus events with undergraduate students.
- Coordinate and facilitate advising sessions for College of Education students.
- Develop and deliver appropriate intervention for at-risk students.
- Monitor the progress of at-risk students and refer students to appropriate support services in order to facilitate their success at ASU.
- Work closely with community college personnel and students to ensure a seamless transition to ASU degree completion.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff, including training and relaying up to date information.
- Monitor changes in academic policy, the core curriculum, TSI, and any other relevant policies, processes, and procedures and communicate these changes to the Dean, Department Chairs, Director, and faculty.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and the Director of the EPI Center.
- Knowledge of ASU policies and procedures.
- Ability to learn varied curricula and advise students accurately.
- Ability to learn the principles, practices, and procedures involved in academic advising, student retention, and intervention.
- Knowledge of content in and ability to effectively utilize higher education catalogs.
- Skilled in the use of various software packages.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders in the academic advising and success process.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field. Background in higher education admissions or registration programs, academic advising, or related work.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge of teacher certification requirements.
Requires prolonged periods of sitting, occasional walking, and intermittent bending and standing; medium level manual dexterity is required; occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
