Position Description

Performs academic advising, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Serve as initial point of contact for graduate students inquiring about the Interdisciplinary Studies (INDS) program.
  • Participate in recruiting, admission, and enrollment related services as assigned, including New Student Orientation.
  • Maintain contact with prospective and current students using all available communication and information support tools to ensure completion of an application, enrolled students’ success, and alumni connectivity.
  • Perform various administrative tasks such as developing, maintaining, and updating internal databases/spreadsheets related to the INDS program, other records of graduate student activity, and organizing student success related projects.
  • Provide assistance to students directly or refers the student to the appropriate contact to meet their need and/or solve their problem.
  • Assist Sr. Academic Advisor with advising-related tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree - any field
  • Familiarity with Texas Tech Graduate Programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability in oral and written communication
  • Ability to organize work assignments for effective and expeditious completion
  • Ability to handle callers/visitors in a calm and professional manner
  • Capable of remaining on task in an area prone to frequent distractions
  • Familiarity with or experience in higher education field
