RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as Academic Advisor for SSS participants;
- Provide progressive, one-on-one academic advising, career, financial literacy, and scholarship activities for SSS participants;
- Collect information/documents and maintain participant records;
- Coordinate the Tutor Mentor and supplemental instruction components;
- Meet with SSS participants regularly to monitor progress and complete a Student Success Plan for each participant;
- Develop and deliver SSS workshops;
- Teach the seminar course for SSS Access Students;
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate SSS Peer Coach;
- Provide support in the coordination process of recruiting and selecting SSS participants;
- Provide support to program participants regarding graduate school admissions, and financial aid;
- Provide support in the implementation of project programming, budget management, recruitment initiatives and social media presence for SSS;
- Responsible for academic monitoring and follow-up tracking;
- Collect and organize data necessary for program effectiveness;
- Provide support in implementing and evaluating tracking system for enrollment/academic progress;
- Assist with the coordination of developmental education (Math, English or Reading) for program participants;
- Support SSS Assistant Director in the writing of reports, evaluations, and budgets;
- Assist in implementing new participant orientations for SSS;
- Support the maintenance of collaborative efforts both on and off campus to identify scholarship/job shadowing/internship opportunities for SSS participants;
- Provide support for the completion and submission of Annual Performance Reports for the SSS Program;
- Assist in implementing activities and services designed to increase retention and graduation rates of SSS program participants;
- Assist in coordinating collaborative student-driven activities between TRIO Programs including conferences and graduate school visits;
- Serve on committees as assigned or supported by the SSS Assistant Director;
- Participate in related professional organizations related to TRIO programs;
- Participate in state, regional and national TRIO conferences; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by the SSS Assistant Director.
- Preferred master’s degree in education, counseling, counselor education, psychology, special education, student personnel, or a related field (bachelor’s degree required);
- Extensive knowledge of advising principles, practices and procedures;
- Minimum three years of experience as an Academic Advisor in four-year college or university;
- Strong verbal and written communication;
- Experience in confidence-building activities, fostering leadership, developing study skills;
- Ability to teach techniques of individual and small group instruction;
- Teach the seminar course for SSS Access Students;
- Strong verbal and written communication;
- Experience in developing student programming that fosters confidence-building, leadership, and academic skills;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, customer service, communication and time management skills with ability to pay attention to details and follow-through;
- Demonstrated initiative and experience working with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds;
- Working software knowledge, including Word, Excel, Access, student databases;
- Previous experience working on a federally funded program preferred; and
- Successful experience working with college students from diverse backgrounds, including educational, socioeconomic, culturally ethnic, and physical and/or learning disabilities.
