Serves as an Academic Advisor for undergraduate Mathematics majors, including mathematics teacher education majors and actuarial majors; helps resolve registration issues for students in all mathematics courses; assists with department recruitment and retention efforts. The Mathematics Department houses a bachelor's program and a master's program in mathematics as well as a Ph.D. program in mathematics education. Within the bachelor's program we have majors in General Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, and Mathematics Teacher Education. There is also a large General Education commitment, serving students from all over campus. The advisor is expected to be involved in advising for the new Data Science major (as of Fall 2025) until the programs growth warrants its own full-time advisor. Salary Rate / Pay RatePay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package
Required Qualifications1. Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or closely related field
2. Minimum one year of professional advising experience or demonstrated equivalent in related field.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Ability to make effective public presentations
5. Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, communication, and teamwork.
6. Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.
7. Strong organizational skills.
8. Ability to work with diverse population of students, peers, and the public.
9. Working knowledge of basic office software and advising systems (word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, databases, student information systems, etc.)
10. Evidence of a positive professional demeanor that contributes to a positive and fulfilling work environment.
11. Evidence of understanding of the issues facing today's college students as it impacts their academic careers.
12. Valid driver's license
1. Master's degree in Mathematics or closely related field.
2. Previous teaching experience at the college level.
Generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate.
Functional ExpectationsMust be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
