Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Telecommunicator to join our team. As a Telecommunicator, you will play a crucial role in emergency response and public safety by receiving and transmitting calls for police, fire, and medical assistance. Your ability to analyze situations, communicate effectively, and remain calm under pressure will be essential in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls from the public
- Gather accurate information from callers to determine the nature of the situation
- Dispatch appropriate emergency personnel to the scene
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers when necessary
- Transcribe and relay information accurately and efficiently
- Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other communication equipment
- Maintain detailed records of all calls received and actions taken
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and medical personnel as needed
Experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role preferred but not required
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures and protocols is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly on your feet
- Proficient in data entry and operating phone systems
Skills:
- Analytical skills: Ability to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions.
- Law enforcement knowledge: Familiarity with law enforcement procedures and protocols.
- Negotiation skills: Ability to handle difficult or confrontational situations with tact.
- Transcription skills: Accurate transcription of information received during calls.
- Conflict management: Ability to manage conflicts or challenging interactions effectively.
- Communication skills: Clear and effective communication with callers, emergency personnel, and other agencies.
- Dispatching: Knowledge of dispatching procedures and ability to coordinate emergency responses.
- Data entry: Proficient in entering information accurately into computer systems.
- Phone systems: Familiarity with operating phone systems and communication equipment.
