This 4-H Youth Development Assistant is part of a dynamic team of professionals developing and delivering community outreach programs that provide research-based, objective informal education. The person in this position will be able to work independently and under guidance from the county agent to implement positive Youth Development programming and is responsible for 4-H club project program management. This position will need excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to be a self-starter in order to provide leadership to grow a large, multi-layer, and complex volunteer organization that delivers high-quality Youth Development programming through a wide variety of club projects and content-areas. The position will also assist in the recruitment, certification, training, development, and discipline of 4-H volunteer leaders.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain relationships with 4-H volunteers and project planning committees including attending monthly evening meetings for 4-H project-specific committees. This position will assist these committees and their 4-H project volunteer coordinator/chairperson with yearly program planning and with mid-year competitions and events.

- Serve as liaison between PCCE 4-H agent and volunteer 4-H project leaders and work with 4-H administrative assistant, who will be the primary 4-h club liaison.
- Attend dog, horse, and shooting sports committee meetings each month and fill in on other committee meetings in the absence of agent.
- Operate fabrication lab equipment 
- Provide guidance and support to volunteer project coordinators to help them design and implement county events.
- Attend 4-H Tagging events and livestock clinics. 
- Assist the 4-H agent on volunteer, project, and other activities, as needed.

2. Plan, attend, and oversee Pima County Fair activities in coordinationwith county 4-H agent. The Fair is a two-week-long event in April that alsorequires year-round planning with the help of project committees. 20 % of Time

- Provide on-site logistical support at the Pima County Fair, includingtroubleshooting issues, assisting 4-H agent and volunteer project coordinators as needed andparticipating on the PCCE team to oversee schedule and protocol implementation.
- Work under the 4-H agent and with Pima County staff to set up and tear downpens, cages, signs, arenas, and other facility elements at the Pima CountyFair. Physical lifting other physical tasks will be needed for this work.
- Throughout the year, collaborate with volunteer project committees to planand prepare for Fair activities.
- Maintain and expand working relationships with local FFA chapters andadvisors to ensure coordination on Fair and other activities.

3. Assist 4-H agent in a variety of training and recruitment effortsfor youth and volunteers.

- Become a certified YQCA instructor and teach youth classes on animal qualitycare.
- Assist the 4-H agent with volunteer recruitment, orientation, and ongoingtraining, including working with committee leaders to maintain smoothtransitions in leadership.
- In coordination with 4-H agent, communicate with volunteers and projectparticipants and ensure information is disseminated in a timely and efficientmanner.

4. Contribute to program budget management alongside 4-H agent andadministrative assistant.

- Participate in 4-H team's effort to manage 4-H budget and address issues asthey arise. 
- Assist 4-H agent in seeking further funding resources for project areas.
- Provide paperwork for p-card uses to ensure timely processing andreconciliation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, or combination of education and work experience.
