The Community Support Trainer works under the general supervision of the Director of IDD Authority Services. The employee is responsible for facilitating outcomes for people with disabilities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides PAS/HAB, Transportation, and Independent Living Skills Training (ILST) to individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities in the southern service areas. Provides consumer instruction, supervision, documentation, record keeping, safety and transportation. This trainer is responsible for facilitating outcomes for people with disabilities in compliance with PASRR, Data Verification Criteria Manual, and Helen Farabee Center's policies and procedures. Frequent travel is required. HFC incorporates principles of trauma-informed care throughout the agency, emphasizing cultural sensitivity and a safe and respectful environment for all individuals served and staff. All job descriptions include the responsibility to learn about and implement trauma-informed practices within the scope of work for the position. Reassignment is a condition of employment that may occur at the employer's discretion. Your work location and hours could change based on program needs.
Education, Training, and Experience
Must have High School Diploma or GED plus six months experience assisting in therapeutic activities. Successful completion of Therapist Technician training program may be substituted for six months experience. Some experience assisting in art, crafts, music education, recreation, vocational, physical/occupational therapy, speech and hearing/audiology is preferred.
Must have current driver's license and be insurable under Center insurance. Must pass and maintain all Center mandated trainings.

- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written with consumers, staff, families, and community in a courteous fashion.
- Interpersonal skills for positive interaction with persons with disabilities.
- Creative ability to accommodate the individual's needs in order to perform the job task
- Ability to develop and implement formal training programs.
- Skilled in the operation of personal computers using Microsoft Office and other business programs.
- Ability to effectively operate all general office equipment.
- Ability to operate power equipment.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and safely transport several individuals.
- Physically able to apply CPR and First Aid in emergency situations.
