POSITION: #FPSUMSSSRHS21375 - Summer School APEX Special Education Teacher
LOCATION:Southridge High School
HOURS: 104 total Hours (90 instruction, 10 prep, 4 clean up)

Qualifications Required:
1. Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate
2. Endorsement in Special Education
3. Satisfactory Evaluations
Qualifications Preferred:
1. Provide for basic education assistance in core subject areas and prepare lessons identified in IP English and IP math.
2. Providing regular instruction in social and behavior curriculum.
3. Evidence of at least one full year successful school teaching experience documented with satisfactory evaluations within the last five years required.
4. Demonstrated success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors.
5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with MDT and Community Based Learning Sites.
6. Participate in team teaching situations with general educators.
7. Evidence of training and experience in curriculum development.
8. Evidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, spreadsheet activities (i.e. Excel), presentation (i.e. Power Point, Hypercard), grading, recording attendance, and communicating by e-mail, and implementing these into daily classroom use required.
9. Evidence of the ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles in the regular classroom and in integrated settings.
10. Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
11. Demonstrated leadership in professional activities related to Special Education.
12. Punctual and consistent attendance.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Be responsible for the educational programming of students with behavior needs as placed by the district in the program.
2. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
3. Participate in the development of an integrated curriculum with other curricular area classes and its implementation into instruction.
4. Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEP's).
5. Maintain current IEP's and monthly student information reports as well as serving as the IEP case manager for students on their caseload.
6. Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members and parents.
7. Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
8. Regularly monitor the progress of students, making changes in programming if appropriate.
9. Assume responsibility for productive use of a classroom paras.
10. Communicate regularly and pro-actively with students and parents regarding progress and behavior.
11. Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with others.
12. Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings.
13. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
14. Maintain the confidentiality of student and family information.
15. Consult with administrators, regular Education Teachers, community agencies, the court system and the specialists about the educational programming of students with disabilities, as appropriate.
16. Work with school and district level experts in designing a personal, social, and responsibility program to best fit the needs to the students in the program
17. Maintain knowledge of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
