Ability and Skills Desired
- Bachelor's degree in music education or Elementary Education from an Accredited College or University.
- Current Washington Teaching Certificate or Letter of Eligibility in Music, (Grades K-12).
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a Catholic school setting is preferred.
- Assess and document student progress.
- Interact effectively and respond to all parent communication in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration.
- Strong musical background.
- Experienced in sacred and secular music.
- Ability to communicate music concepts to students in Pre-K through 8th grade.
- Voice and instrument (piano) to lead junior high youth cantors and student body.
Responsibilities Include
- Teach the elements of music via the content standards as set forth by the Diocese of Seattle and the Washington State Standards.
Artistic Perception- Teach students to read, write, listen to and describe music
Creative Expression- Teach students to sing a repertoire of vocal literature representing various genres, styles, and cultures with expression, good posture, and tone quality.
Historical and Cultural Context- Teach students to understand and analyze the historical and cultural roots of music.
Musical Appreciation- Aid students to derive meaning and respond to various works of music.
- Position requires a knowledge of Catholic liturgy and traditions.
- Candidate will have competency in piano and voice.
- Collaborate with teachers on selecting music fand preparing music books for Masses or school liturgies.
- Provide musical direction for the all-grade level concerts, Masses and Liturgies and Graduation.
- Collaborate with an accompanist.
- Support students in developing an appreciation of music.
- Teach the fundamentals of music theory.
- Teach instruments (boom whackers, resonator bells, Orph instruments, hand chimes, rhythm instruments, recorder and Solfège to select grade levels.
- Prepare a Grade Level Concerts: Pre-K concert, K-Halloween and Christmas Concert, 1st and 2nd Grade Concert, 3rd and 4th Grade concert, 5th and 6th Grade Concert, and 8th Grade Graduation
- Facilitate practices and performances for Cantors at all Masses and Liturgies.
- Teach music curriculum (Pre-K through 8th grade) according to a master schedule and meet regularly with the principal.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the parish Director of Music Ministry.
- Provide grade-appropriate instructional program of engaging and interactive activities/lessons for Pre-K through 8th grade levels.
- Maintain high professional standard consistent with the mission of St. Louise Catholic School and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Implement lesson plans, utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge and engage students.
- Utilize technology programs for Skyward, Word, Power Point, Excell for grading, providing interactive music lessons, and communication to faculty, parents, and staff.
- Be always responsible for the safety and active supervision of students and for classroom management and musical instruments.
- Offer and conduct a Grades 3-8 Chorale that will practice afterschool and that will sing during Masses and Liturgies throughout the year.
Salary:
The range for this position is $58,666-$99,628. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees and certifications.
