CTE TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHER (AGRICULTURE EDUCATION)
STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTION
Classification: Certificated Location: Assigned Location
Reports to: Principal or Principal Designee FLSA Status: Exempt
Bargaining Unit: NTEA
This is a standard position description to be used for certificated teaching positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation. Teachers assigned to the position description may or may not be assigned all of the duties identified herein.
This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.
CTE Agriculture has three primary goals in the North Thurston Public Schools:

• Integrate 21st Century Standards in courses and CTSO's.
• Align standards to post-secondary articulations or recognized industry certifications.
• Connect students to careers in the Agriculture/Science/STEM Field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid CTE Certification or ability to achieve certification
2. Previous experience in a similar setting
3. Industry related experience
4. Knowledge of:
1. Farm based labs
2. CTE and/or project-based learning
3. Technology and equipment used in agriculture CTE Courses
5. Knowledge of FFA or equivalent CTSO's
6. Knowledge of Agriculture based curriculum
7. Knowledge and incorporation of 21st Century Learning Skills
8. Demonstrated knowledge of grade appropriate Classroom Based Assessments for Career and Technical Education
9. Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels.
10. Evidence of providing for individual student learning styles.
11. Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
12. Evidence of alignment to Common Core State Standards in Agriculture/Science
13. Evidence of excellent inter-personal skills with other staff members, organization, and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
14. Dynamic, interactive, student involving, hands-on instructional style.
15. If invited to interview, be prepared with a personal portfolio of your work.
16. Experience with industry based advisory committees and community partnerships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Full Teacher Certification in CTE Technical Education
2. Ability to develop CTE Frameworks in Agriculture in alignment to 21st Century Skills and Common Core State Standards
3. Knowledge FFA SAE and Competition or Student Leadership
4. Training or experience in the Core Plus Program
5. Endorsed in General Science, Biology, Natural Resources

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Assume responsibility for the High School Agriculture Science Programs.
2. Attend Agriculture Science trainings.
3. Maintain and develop outside garden/farm space.
4. Work towards CTE Dual Credit or College in the High School options in course work.
5. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
6. Make a commitment of time and energy required to teach all students, regardless of learning style or learning limitations.
7. Commit to bell-to-bell instruction using best practices including student evaluation (formative assessment).
8. Create a safe and positive learning environment for all students. This includes adequately securing class and practice rooms when not physically present to supervise.
9. Hold CTE Advisory Meetings, minimum of three a year
10. Advise student leadership organization
11. Adhere to all North Thurston Public School's policies and expectations for staff and students.
12. Actively engage students in the learning process.
13. Regularly incorporate higher level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment, and performance.
14. Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
15. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues.
16. Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
17. Be committed to success for all students.
18. Participate in workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals. This includes monthly staff meetings and professional development days.
19. Maintain a secure classroom environment.
20. Supervise student activities outside the school day as appropriate.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
