Position Summary
Perform light duty preventive maintenance and associated non-technical mechanical work under the direct oversight of a qualified VMT or Supervisor. Assist qualified technicians with preventive maintenance medium and heavy duty vehicles and mounted equipment. Pickup and deliver parts and supplies from local vendors, including delivering parts/supplies to other regional garages or road technicians at field locations as needed. Mount, dismount, and balance light and heavy duty tires. Clean shop/parts areas. Wash and clean vehicles/equipment. Perform garage compliance and safety inspections. Assist with driving vehicles to and from region locations.
Responsibilities
- Perform light duty preventive maintenance and associated non-technical mechanical work. Mount, dismount, and balance light and heavy duty tires. Perform simple light duty repairs such as replacing wiper blades, jump starting, and headlight replacements. Assist qualified VMT's performing Preventive Maintenance and repairs on medium/heavy duty trucks and mounted equipment.
- Clean garage floors, emptying trash, and maintaining general housekeeping inside and around garage area. Washing and cleaning of vehicles/equipment for maintenance. Shuttle vehicles and equipment.
- Perform garage compliance and safety inspections. Shuttle parts and equipment between garages and vendors.
- Other non-technical duties as assigned by supervision.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an Associates Degree in Automotive Science or accredited equivalent certification program for a minimum of 6 months.
- Valid Florida Class C drivers license
- Ability to perform minor vehicle checks
- Pass OSHA tire service training course.
- Ability to operate forklifts or be certified to do so within 90-120 days
- High School graduate or GED equivalent
Desired Qualifications
- Experience cleaning and fueling vehicles/equipment
- Experience as garage helper or other maintenance function
- Ability to perform minor vehicle checks
- Ability to complete and maintain basic records (written and computer entry)
Working Conditions
- Frequent bending, stooping and lifting 50 lbs.
- Prolonged standing
- Garage environment with associated fumes (gasoline, diesel, solvents, exhaust fumes & dust.)
- Inside and outside work in all seasons and weather
- Part time during business hours
