POSITION OVERVIEW: The Operator is responsible for safely setting up and operating production machinery according to specific company standards and protocols. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring products meet our quality standards regarding assembly specifications.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Set up and operate production machinery according to specific standards and protocols of the company
- Ascertain that each machine is properly calibrated at the beginning of each shift so that it provides optimum output
- Test the operation of machines periodically to guarantee their smooth running
- Look through work orders to determine type and quantity of materials needed for each production batch
- Measure and grade batches of raw materials and feed them into production machinery
- Check output to discover any machine-related mistakes or flaws
- Maintain activity logs
- Assemble goods and report any faults to the supervisor on an immediate basis
- Monitor processes to ensure that they are run properly and ensure that basic quality control and quality assurance tests are performed
- Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
- Store goods and raw materials in factory storage areas and warehouses in manners conducive to ensuring their quality and safety
- Prepare cartons and crates for packaging purposes and ensure that items are properly and safely packed into them
- Inspect finished products to ensure that they conform to quality standards and isolate any non-conformed or damaged items
- Communicate problems with machinery, raw and end products to the Team Leader or Supervisor
- Some assignments may require entering production data into Epicor
- Perform preventative and regular maintenance on machines to ensure that their operational life is extended
- When needed, act as a productive team member in other areas of the manufacturing process
- Participate in 5S activities daily
- Participate in TFPS initiatives
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- High school Diploma or GED preferred
- 0 - 3 years of experience in a factory/ assembly environment
- Adherence to health and safety policies and regulations (e.g. constant proper use of protective equipment)
- Understanding of basic production procedures
- Ability to use tape measure, calipers, and other measuring devices
- Ability to comprehend, or to learn to comprehend, part specification prints and assembly instructions
- Attention to detail
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items (up to 40 pounds alone and occasionally up to 75 pounds using team lifting) and work overtime
- Ability to effectively communicate written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts desired
PHYSICAL SUMMARY:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, grasp, use hands, reach with hands and arms, push, stand and walk; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and use wrists, hand or fingers repetitively; and rarely required to sit, drive, climb or balance, operate mechanical equipment or move up and down from/to a sitting position on the floor. The employee may lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Lifting and/or moving anything over 40 pounds requires a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing capacity required to maximize ability to understand all verbal communication and react accordingly. Basic PPE required.
