DOHMH COVID-19 Vaccination Plan- Round 3 Supplemental Gotham Center, LIC
The New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Bureau of Immunization (BOI) Citywide Immunization Registry (CIR) is a central record-keeping system established by DOHMH to track the immunization status of individual children and adults, monitor immunization levels in the population in a timely manner, and implement publicly purchased vaccine ordering, management, and accountability. The CIR is accessible to licensed healthcare providers, parents, and agencies authorized by the DOHMH to retrieve immunization records to ensure that children and adults receive all required immunizations and are, thereby, protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.
DOHMH's BOI manages distribution and reporting of federally funded COVID-19 vaccine through the NYC Vaccines for Children (VFC) and the NYC Vaccines for Adults (VFA) programs. The VFC and VFA programs are administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; in NYC, both are integrated within the CIR. The NYC VFC program distributes federally funded vaccines to independent practices, health centers, and hospitals to immunize children ages 0 through 18 years who are covered by or eligible to be covered by Medicaid, uninsured, American Indian/Alaska Native, or whose insurance does not cover the cost of a vaccine. In NYC, 74% of children receive vaccines through the VFC program. The VFC program is also responsible for distributing COVID-19 vaccine to eligible children. The NYC Vaccines for Adult (VFA) program provides COVID-19 vaccine to under-insured and uninsured adults in NYC.
