WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Design Engineer for a project team, you will provide a variety of complex designs that are comprehensive, economical, and conforming with engineering and design standards. Under limited supervision, you will work directly with engineering to provide design concepts conforming to industry engineering standards, coordinate and execute multiple assignments concurrently, and ensure the highest quality and accuracy of designs, as well as clear, explicit communication of information, is maintained in design outputs (models, drawings, etc.).
- Work independently on design projects; establish product structures that meet manufacturing, assembly, and testing requirements.
- Prepare and manage the schedule and tasks associated with long-term development or special projects.
- Serve as D&D representative on project teams, including estimating job scope and time to complete a project.
- Recommend materials and assembly methods and compute necessary calculations in compliance to engineering standards.
- Create solid models of complex, multi-level assemblies consisting of purchased and fabricated components in accordance with engineering standards.
- Ensure that FEA, interference, and tolerance analyses are complete.
- Assign tasks to designers and drafters, check, and approve all work on delegated projects.
- Design and detail complex machined, cast, molded, sheet metal and other components from engineering inputs and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials.
- Maintain CAD model and drawings files in accordance with PDM requirements.
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
In the role of Design Engineer at Zygo, you will interface directly with engineering, manufacturing, planning, purchasing and suppliers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
- 0-5 years related work experience
- Experience in solid modeling
- Knowledge of standard drafting practices, GDT, and configuration control
- Good mathematics and basic algebraic skills
- Knowledge of document control procedures
- Good verbal and written communications skills.
- Computer skills to include experience with MS Windows and MS Office applications.
WHAT'S NICE TO HAVE
- Solid Works experience preferred
- Exposure to optical/opto-mechanical design concepts a plus
