Senior Tool Design Project Engineer
Duties
- Design progressive and secondary stamping and forming dies for new products and processes, and replacement of existing tools at end of life. Design other types of tools for production as needed.
- Manage the project lifecycle of new tools to ensure project delivery on time and on budget, including the development of all drawings and information for production by internal toolmakers or external sources; management of procurement activities including budgeting, quoting, vendor selection, capital expenditure requests, and invoice approvals; and overseeing tool trials and adjustments to achieve approval for release to production.
- Support product development teams in Design for Manufacturing activities by recommending design adjustments and production processes to optimize cost through improving material utilization, reducing defects, and ensuring quick, reliable setups.
- Support production team in troubleshooting and problem solving for tool related issues.
Qualifications
- 5+ years as a Tool Designer creating progressive and secondary stamping and forming dies in an active manufacturing facility.
- Must have experience with 3D CAD Modeling, preferably SolidWorks, and strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and project management tracking.
- Must have demonstrated problem solving capabilities and be knowledgeable in lean manufacturing principles.
- Must work well in a team-based environment.
- Hands on tool room experience a plus.
- BS degree in engineering a plus
- Journeyman Toolmaker Certificate a plus
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
