Goodwill has partnered with EmployIndy to provide services to Out-of-School Youth (ages 16-24) through YES Indy, known internally as Goodwill Ignite. YES Indy’s mission statement is, “You establish a vision for your life. YES Indy helps you achieve it. We offer free education and job training, supporting you every step of the way to reach your goals.” Goodwill Ignite offers 14 program elements such as, connecting participants to secondary education opportunities, certifications, paid work experiences, and supportive services offered to the participants via a Goodwill Ignite Coach. The Coach enrolls participants, documents goals and objectives, communicates at a minimum of monthly with each participant and tracks education and employment outcomes. The Coach networks within Goodwill’s programs and services to promote and gain referrals into Goodwill Ignite.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Ensures out-of-school youth program eligibility for each participant, requesting additional documentation as needed. Assesses participants to determine nature and degree of services according to the 14 Program Elements and either provides services or refers them to appropriate programs.
  • Coaches participants to act on and achieve their long-term educational and employment goals. Conducts one-on-one follow-ups with participants to continually monitor efforts and measure progress. Makes recommendations to provide guidance and counseling.
  • Organizes and presents job readiness preparation either one-on-one or in small groups. Stays abreast of current labor market data to provide students information on employment opportunities.
  • Initiates, builds, and maintains networks with key community partners including Goodwill staff (community agencies, educational institutions, financial liaisons, and employers) to enhance the menu of wrap-around services provided to participants.

Elicits and considers differing viewpoints when reviewing issues. Models concepts of motivational interviewing, coaching, and reflective practice.
  • Autonomy - Takes initiative without waiting to be directed, does what is asked, and works until the job is completed. Takes ownership of mistakes and learns from them rather than makes excuses.
