LEAD DANCE TEACHER

Position Overview

The Lead Dance Teacher is responsible for conducting assigned classes within the Y-Dance program.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for execution of curriculum, including age and skill appropriate music, choreography and prop selection under the approval of the director.
• Provide age and skill appropriate structure, tone and discipline within classroom to encourage student growth and development as dancers.
• Set up class appropriately prior to students arriving and breakdown and clean room after students depart.
• Assist with Front Desk Responsibilities during evening hours.
• Email parent(s)/guardian(s) when student is absent to acknowledge absence.
• Communicate any noteworthy class issues with Dance Director, including excessive absences.
• Read and respond to all director communication.
• Coordinate appropriate substitute teacher when unable to teach and communicate such with Dance Director prior to absence.
• Consult with director to determine appropriate placement.
• Participate in the development, preparation and execution of Spring show and additional performances.
• Wear attire as outline by class and dress policy.
• Maintain client and program confidentiality.
• Maintain all necessary documentation and records.
• Represent organization in a professional manner at all required meetings and events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Student or older.
• Knowledge and proficiency in various genres of dance and techniques required for all age skill levels.
• Strong teaching and mentoring abilities.
• Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
• Conduct fitting a positive role model.
• Neat and professional appearance and attitude.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

To perform essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required with or without reasonable accommodation to sit, stand, bend and reach with manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, copiers, telephones and other office equipment. Valid driver’s license required. May require lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
