Job Title: Workforce Development & Volunteer Coordinator
Department: Development
Reports to: Associate Director of Development: Volunteer Engagement & Fundraising
Payroll Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Pay: $18.22 - $22.77/hour
Work Week: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, Saturdays as needed
Job Summary:
The Workforce Development & Volunteer Coordinator assists in the recruitment, engagement, and recognition of volunteers, Workforce Development employees, AmeriCorps service members, and other interns at Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH).
This position works to build relationships in the community to grow the overall volunteer base and advance individual and group partnerships while assisting with all aspects of volunteer management, including initial orientation, database maintenance and tracking, and promoting volunteer opportunities as they arise. This person will also serve as the key contact to various outside service, employment, and Workforce Development organizations, facilitating the recruitment and onboarding efforts as they pertain to those sources.
The Workforce Development & Volunteer Coordinator serves as the linchpin between Habitat's mission and individuals seeking personal growth and community impact. Their efforts will contribute significantly to GRHFH's mission of constructing homes, fostering communities, and nurturing hope within the Greater Rochester area.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Recruit and schedule volunteers for construction, office, Habitat ReStore, deconstruction, family services and special events opportunities.
· Assist with all aspects of volunteer management including orientations, maintenance of database, volunteer tracking and follow-up.
· Work with construction staff members to ensure successful volunteer build days – signing volunteers in, conducting meet and greets with volunteers and corporate sponsors, providing orientation at the start of the build day and giving a brief history of Habitat during lunch.
· Develop and/or revise volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition tools.
· Oversee AmeriCorps national service program by serving as AmeriCorps Host Site Manager.
· This role entails acting as primary liaison between GRHFH and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) for purposes of coordinating recruitment, administrative support, human resources related needs, and facilitating other necessary communications, programs, reporting, and events
· Manage AmeriCorps and volunteer recruitment efforts by participating at job fairs, conducting outreach to local colleges and trade programs, and coordinating with outside recruitment firms
· Oversee Workforce Development programs, serving as the primary HR liaison to these employees and working cooperatively with Construction Site Supervisors to manage employee performance and growth
· Serve as key contact to various outside service, employment, and Workforce Development organizations
· Facilitate interviews and onboarding of Workforce Development employees and AmeriCorps Members
· Help to refine, innovate, and grow Workforce Development programs
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Comfort speaking in front of small groups
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Experience or ability to learn Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
· Knowledge of volunteer engagement and community development practices preferred
· Valid driver’s license with a clean (insurable) driving record required
Education and Experience:
· High-school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or better preferred
· Education and/or experience in volunteer management, project management, and/or human resources preferred
· Experience with AmeriCorps program is preferred
· Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation is preferred
Work Environment:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· This position will start most days at the construction sites in the morning, meeting priority volunteer groups, and then they will travel to the GRHFH office or home office for the remainder of the day
· Daily travel will be required for this position and reliable transportation is required. Approved work-related mileage, beyond commuting to and from home, will be reimbursed per the affiliate’s policy.
