SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of EHS; initiates and manages positive, proactive strategies to reduce lost time, and development of strong working relations within applicable medical communities. Provide guidance and assistance to corporate and field locations on policies and procedures, answer and interpret complex questions relating to Workers Compensation, act as liaison with third party administrators, legal, and field locations; maintain working relationship and provide advisement to corporate management, finance, and legal departments; provide research, data and analysis for budgets, cost containment, loss prevention and process improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of the Workers Compensation program, including reporting process, review of incident reports, claim management, return to work, and settlement negotiations; maintain working relationships with vendors and defense attorneys; act as a point of escalation on necessary cases; ensure compliance with relevant company, state, federal and statutory policies, procedures and legislation, including OSHA
- Manage Workers Compensation reserves for indemnity, medial and expenses
- Manage Workers Compensation cases with Third Party Administrator (TPA) and specific state plans
- Provide required information for accurate OSHA recordkeeping
- Monitor expenditures, analyze data, prepare reports for distribution to management, and reconcile billings with insurance carrier
- Coordinate and participate in claim reviews with carrier and field locations; review and negotiate reserve levels
- Research data and prepare budget, provide training sessions as needed to corporate and/or field locations
- Provide training at all sites on processing reported injuries and make recommendations for process improvement
- Support all sites in incident investigations including causal analysis and providing pertinent trend data as needed, assist in site safety audits
- Administers the Workers Compensation for all United Alloy locations
- Establish effective facility return to work programs that offer meaningful, temporary, transitional work for those in the recovery process and compare progress to disability recovery guides based upon the nature of the employee’s injury or illness.
- Disposition illness/injury cases, with the assistance of HR, where individuals cannot return to their normal job after reaching maximum medical improvement. To ensure dispositions are conducted in compliance with the ADA.
- Establish a positive working relationship with the medical and insurance community. To establish and grow partnerships that both benefit the employee and the company. To ensure quality care, cost effective care, and prompt return to work where possible.
- Manage first responder program, including AED prescriptions and maintenance, training, etc.
- Establish and manage the company wellness program to promote injury and illness prevention
- Manage early intervention programs to prevent the progression of injury and illness
- Implement and manage a virtual medical incident intervention program utilizing telephonic and video triage of injuries
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of Health, Safety, Environmental, Training, and Workers Compensation or other
- Travel up to 25%
- Outdoor work required in heat, cold, weather periodically.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree related to Occupational Health Care, Loss Control Management, or Risk Management
- Registered Nurse or COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse), a plus
- 5+ years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial manufacturing environment with Workers Compensation management experience, Workers Compensation nurse case manager or claims management in Workers Compensation.
- Strong analytical, computer and database skills (SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communications skills
