Job Description
- Daily care of a wide range of small native and exotic animals including feeding and handling animals and cleaning habitats
- Maintain a sanitary and organized animal facility
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and observations
- Maintain classroom and exhibit hall aquaria and terraria
- Present wildlife talks to small groups of Summer Camp students using live education animals
- Participate in provided onsite training
- Purchase animal food and supplies which may require the use of personal vehicle (mileage and expenses reimbursed)
- Other duties as assigned

- Reliable
- Works well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Takes initiative when necessary
- Experience caring for a wide variety of animals, not just mammals
- Interest in youth education, particularly in a museum setting is preferred
- Experience in public presentations is an advantage
- Comfortable handling live animals including snakes, lizards, frogs, mice, cockroaches
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds
- Able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Able to arrive to work on time
- Access to reliable transportation to perform the functions of the job
- Must comply with the museum’s COVID-19 protocols
- Family members of current or former employees or board members of the Houston Museum of Natural Science are not eligible for this internship
