Description:
Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Water Resources Engineer or Scientist with Entry to 2 years of experience to join our Norfolk (preferred) or Richmond, VA office. As part of the Coastal/Water Resources Group, you will work closely with the local Virginia based team as well as with the broader Moffatt & Nichol team via our highly successful interoffice staff utilization program. This will provide you with an opportunity to enhance your skills, knowledge, and network beyond the local states.
You will contribute to projects for clients such as the United States Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, cities, municipalities, and private clients/developers. We are actively performing engineering services for nearby cities such as: Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton and Nags Head. You will perform engineering analysis, modeling and design for projects in urban watersheds. You will prepare hydrologic & hydraulic models in both 1D and 2D to support watershed quantity and quality studies, stormwater master plans, FEMA flood studies, flood resiliency projects, and capital improvement projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent Water Resources science degree
- Entry to 2 years of experience of related experience
- For entry level applicants, related internship experience is preferred
- Engineer in Training (preferred)
- Practical work experience with: SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM and ESRI GIS
- Knowledge of the following are a plus: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D
- Willingness and ability to perform field duties as needed
- Travel to Moffatt & Nichol’s Norfolk office will be required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Regional travel is required.

- Develops 1D and 2D surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic modeling
- Supports planning and design of construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models
