Accent Controls, Inc. (ACI) is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist supporting the Logistics Readiness Center, located at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan

SUMMARY:

The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist performs a variety of warehousing duties which involve verifying hazardous and non-hazardous against receiving documents, safety data sheets (SDS). Noting and reporting discrepancies/damages, routing incoming deliveries to specific building locations at the Detroit Arsenal, storing, stacking, or palletizing hazardous and non-Hazardous Materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods, state, and federal regulations. Must process items for delivery to specific building locations where customers are located. Work also involves shipping duties which includes verifying shipping documents are accurate and complete, ensuring shipments are properly packaged and palletized, making sure the shipments are loaded properly on transporting vehicles, and ensuring all shipping records are prepared.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist is the direct go-between for the Hazmart and the customers at the Detroit Arsenal. Currently scheduled are 37 stops with direct points of contact and their alternates. The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist will conduct daily and weekly visits to each individual point of contact.

  • Make recommendations for the elimination or control of hazardous conditions which will affect the safe handling and storage of hazardous and non-Hazardous Material.
  • Conduct enforcement activities to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and codes governing the handling and storage of hazardous and non-Hazardous Material.
  • Inspect each Hazardous Material locker for each customer making sure their locker is used and maintained following local, state, and federal laws. The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist will order and receive new product from outside vendors or the U.S. Army Depot whenever feasible.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist will deliver a new SDS (Safety Data Sheet) with each new product delivered or reproduce a SDS from the SDS library maintained in Hazmart.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist maintain the SDS library to ensure it is current with all Hazardous Material products on-hand.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist will receive and help process all hazardous and non-hazardous waste for shipment following IAW Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 40, 49, 29.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist will perform daily cleanup and maintenance of indoors and outdoors storage sheds.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist receive, separate, and store all hazardous and non-hazardous waste for proper disposal.
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist is responsible for maintaining the Hazardous Material vehicle and forklift with daily Preventive Maintenance Check Systems (PMCS).
  • The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist has the responsibility to ensure the daily, weekly, monthly, cleaning schedule for the warehouse is kept up to date.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. citizen or proof of legal residency
  • Must pass an extensive Government background check
  • Pass substance abuse screening on initial hire and during random drug checks throughout the year.
  • Must be able to work under deadlines, stressful conditions, and be physically able to perform the job that is required.
  • Working knowledge of PC based Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Must be a team player, but also will be required to work independently.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERINCE:

A bachelor's degree in environmental health science, physical science, chemistry or a related field or in process of obtaining. (Preferred)

Knowledge and experience working with Hazardous Material and or hazardous waste.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Must be able to comprehend what was read and put that information on paper. Must be verbally adept to communicate with co-workers, Government customers, and management. Must be able to communicate with outside carriers when they bring or take material from the warehouse.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have an active HAZWOPER-40 certification
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Must have a valid Chauffeur license
  • Must complete certificate for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act within 30 days of posting to the position

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations as it pertains to Hazardous Material storage and transportation
  • Ability to handle restricted and confidential information in a professional manner and maintain the information as such.
  • Self-starter, who needs little or no direction
  • Strong team player with organizational skills
  • Ability to make oral and written reports and presentations clearly, concisely, and effectively.
  • Highly motivated, with very good people skills
  • Must possess the ability and working knowledge of the Windows 10 computer operating system (or better). This knowledge is necessary to perform the monthly administration reports that are required.
  • Ability to setup, maintain, organize essential files and records
  • Ability to process all hazardous and non-Hazardous Material and waste for shipment and storage
  • Ability to track and process documents needed for shipment of all hazardous and non-Hazardous Material and waste.
  • Knowledge of all local, State, and Federal regulations for proper storage of Hazardous Material
  • Knowledge and abilities to use all hand and mechanical equipment needed to properly prepare, store, and ship all Hazardous Material, hazardous and universal waste
  • Ability to perform research and analyze information into reports and/or presentations.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment as detailed in the description of duties

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Hazardous MaterialWarehouse Specialist is required to be in very good physical condition. They must be able to perform the following physical activities: kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The need to be able to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing. Need to be able to lift at least 50 lbs. They also must deal with indoor and outdoor weather conditions daily.


MISCELLANEOUS / OTHER:

Ability to stand, squat, and have full range of motion, wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as needed for job duties, lift at least 50 pounds, operate a forklift in accordance with a training certification program, and see, hear and respond to dangerous situations.
