WHY THIS ROLE IS VALUABLE
We are seeking a VP of Risk Management, Procurement, and Transactions at Revantage to spearhead all North American insurance programs for Revantage and Blackstone’s real estate portfolio companies. This pivotal role involves identifying and assessing operational risks, crafting effective Risk Management solutions, and providing crucial day-to-day support to Blackstone deal teams throughout real estate acquisitions and divestitures.
The successful candidate will cultivate meaningful relationships across Revantage, Blackstone, and other portfolio companies, alongside external stakeholders. This role demands exceptional business acumen, the ability to articulate risks clearly, and the creativity to devise solutions that uphold the reputations of Blackstone, Revantage, and other portfolio entities. Given the dynamic growth and rapid transaction pace, the ideal candidate will thrive under pressure, adept at meeting tight deadlines, managing complexity, and balancing multiple priorities effectively.
Based at Revantage’s headquarters in Chicago, IL, this role empowers the candidate to leverage our purchasing power in insurance procurement, fostering scalable and innovative Risk Management approaches. Additionally, the VP will serve as a principal advisor to senior executives, deal teams, and business partners, offering insights on risk-related and insurance matters.
HOW YOU ADD VALUE
- Directs and supervises the procurement and transactions team, focusing on scaling the risk function and cultivating best-in-class services and processes.
- Leads end-to-end procurement efforts, streamlining and modernizing our Risk Management platform to enhance the development, implementation, and consistent application of effective risk transfer programs, policies, procedures, and reporting tools.
- Guides the Risk Management Transaction Team in providing clear and high-quality Risk Management guidance within a transactional context, addressing Blackstone’s Risk Management priorities and initiatives.
- Oversees the procurement of appropriate levels of commercial insurance and other risk transfer and claims management programs, leveraging our purchasing power to achieve cost savings.
- Establishes and communicates written policies and procedures for procurement and transaction functions, ensuring regular updates.
- Optimizes new deal standards for delivery, communication, tracking, and due diligence best practices.
- Utilizes Origami to monitor progress and meet the expectations of portfolio companies and Blackstone Real Estate.
- Collaborates with senior management to establish risk-related goals and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Cultivates a more effective Risk Management Department, supporting professional development and succession planning of direct reports.
- Directs services provided by insurance brokers and key risk vendor relationships.
- Maintains executive-level sponsorship with key insurance partners.
- Advises and updates Blackstone Real Estate executives, Revantage senior management, and portfolio companies’ senior management on key Risk Management issues.
- Collaborates with business partners throughout the organization to understand Risk Management needs and strategic initiatives.
- Maintains an effective and proactive Risk Management framework, driving process change and considering impacts on risks and resources.
- Educates and advises on adequacy and levels of coverage for various forms of insurance.
- Works with portfolio companies to secure appropriate insurance programs and contract language for large construction projects.
- Defines relevant metrics and key performance data, including annual insurance costs, renewal information, key Risk Management issues, and loss trends.
- Acts as an in-house resource to educate, advise, and counsel company management, property staff, and business partners to mitigate or transfer risk effectively.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/business/technical school
- Minimum of 15+ year’s Risk Management Experience
- Experience in leading Risk Management and insurance functions
- Demonstrable and current in-depth knowledge and understanding of the real estate and /or PE investment business, including the main products & services provided.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written), numerical, presentation & organizational skills
- Demonstrate strong leadership/teamwork skills
- Effective reasoning and decision-making skills
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and follow up in a timely manner
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, particularly Excel; and working knowledge of RMIS requirements and capabilities
