We are looking for a VP Capital Project Management to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting directly to the COO, this position will be responsible for all things related to Facilities Capital Improvements and Construction Renovations for our company wide portfolio. 

  

The successful candidate will assist in developing and directing the strategic planning of multiple projects across the entire portfolio, who will oversee the coordination of personnel and resources required to successfully complete all assigned projects. 

 

As the VP Capital Project Management for Student Housing, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the construction process of student housing projects from conception to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This leadership role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including project teams, contractors, architects, and university representatives. 

Strategic Planning: 

  • Develop a working rapport with all Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Directors, General Managers and Maintenance Supervisors 
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for construction projects in alignment with the company's overall goals and objectives. 
  • Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines and allocating resources. 
  • Evaluate potential student housing development opportunities and provide input on feasibility studies. 

Project Management

  • Lead the Construction Management Department while being responsible for overseeing the management and completion of multiple projects for a multi-site portfolio through team of construction management directors. 
  • Lead the Project Management team in planning, scheduling, and executing student housing construction projects. 
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies. 
  • Communicate timeline changes and new information to team; track project changes and adjust schedules as needed.

Budget Oversight: 

  • Manage project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met. 
  • Work closely with finance teams to monitor and control costs throughout the construction process. 
  • Assist with Capital Projects and coordinate repairs through construction management department with onsite staff while maintaining full accountability and responsibility of assigned projects. 

Quality Assurance: 

  • Communicate timeline changes and new information to team; track project changes and adjust schedules as needed. 
  • Monitor current projects and coordinate all team members involved to keep workflow on track. 
  • Implement and maintain quality control standards to ensure that construction meets industry regulations and exceeds customer expectations. 
  • Assist with new acquisitions and due diligence as needed. 
  • Performs quality control on the projects throughout development to maintain set standards. 
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including university officials, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities. 

Contract Negotiation: 

  • Serves as POC for institutional investors and JV Partners involving construction management projects. 
  • Oversee the negotiation and management of contracts with construction firms, suppliers, and other vendors. 
  • Ensure that contracts are in compliance with legal requirements and company policies. 

Team Leadership: 

  • Build and lead a high-performing construction management team. 
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for team members. 
  • Regulatory Compliance: 
  • Stay informed about relevant building codes, zoning regulations, and other legal requirements. 
  • Ensure that all construction activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.  
  • Proven experience in construction management, with a focus on student housing projects and or multi-family. 
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes. 
  • Excellent Project Management and leadership skills. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. 
  • Experience with oversight of multiple employee department 
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control. 
  • This position is located in AUSTIN, TEXAS. Must be able to come onsite and/or relocate to Austin. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management or construction management. 
  • Previous experience in overseeing student housing construction projects is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated success in delivering projects on time and within budget. 
  •  CAD experience not required but helpful

Travel 

  • This position requires some travel for training or assistance at assigned properties or region, as agreed on in advance by both parties.
