Position Title: Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator
Job Summary: The Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator will work under the direction of the Tri-County Development Director to identify volunteers and coordinate volunteer needs for Peoria, to coordinate all aspects of Special Events for Peoria, and to provide assistance with Special Events in Pekin and Tri-County. This role will also assist with Advisory Board responsibilities and serve on AB Committees to provide assistance.
Reports To: Tri-County Development Director
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree desired with professional business-related experiences equivalent to two years in fundraising, volunteer management, and/or Special Events position is preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.
Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

- Ability to manage projects successfully efficiently and effectively.
- Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
- Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Ability to establish policies and procedures, holding others accountable to the same.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet, and Social Media platforms.
- Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.

Essential Responsibilities:
Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Recruit, process, train, and manage time for volunteers in Peoria area.
- Maintain volunteer database for Peoria area volunteers.
- Maintain social media presence for volunteer opportunities and to recognize volunteers.
- Develop presentations and communication avenues for volunteer opportunities to increase participation amongst key stakeholders including, but not limited to, Advisory Board members, committee members, clubs, organizations, community groups.
- Coordinate recognition of Peoria area volunteers via thank you notes, special opportunities, certificates of appreciation, etc.
- Share resources with Pekin and Tri-County to recruit and maintain volunteers in their offices.
Event Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Special Events in Peoria, including assisting with the development of plans and the implementation of the events.
- Assist in creation of publicity and marketing materials for social media, Special Events and for general communications throughout the year.
- Provide assistance to Pekin and Tri-County with their annual Special Events.
- Assist with support materials providing information on events and volunteers for Peoria Advisory Board and sub-committees.
- Work with Tri-County to identify current needs and maintain this list; share needs with Advisory Board and Development Staff serving the Tri-County
- Coordinate the collection and documentation of Gifts In-Kind and Volunteerism by Peoria Area Businesses and coordinate recognition for these gifts of items and time.
Divisional Expectations
- Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
- Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's “Safe from Harm” Certification program and other related trainings as legally required.
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to work in Development.
Travel may be required.
Position Ranking:
- Regular Full Time, Exempt, Pay Range $47,000 to $53,000 Annually
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift to 30 pounds and occassionally lift up to fifty pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
