Salary: $66,000-$74,000 annually

Job Summary: The Volunteer Engagement Manager is responsible for the full membership cycle (recruitment and retention) in Shasta, Trinity and Siskiyou Counties to serve the mission of Girl Scouts. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will engage with community partners to develop and execute effective community outreach and event partnerships to support recruitment and retention. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will provide strategies for new member recruitment, volunteer and family support and membership retention to increase new youth and adult membership, support member retention and ensure effective participation in Girl Scouts. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will use relationship-building strategies, plans and activities that lead to adults discovering and engaging in Girl Scouts through flexible options that directly contribute Girl Scouts’ sense of community, growth and impact. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will also implement adult Volunteer Engagement strategies including planning and implementing adult trainings, enrichment opportunities and recognition. 

 

Daily, weekly and monthly activities include: 

  • Develop and build strong community partnerships leveraging effective strategies and tactics for recruitment and volunteer support 
  • Develop, plan and execute recruitment strategies and tactics which include, but are not limited to: Recruitment at school and community meetings and tabling events to generate leads and increase Girl Scout presence in the community; Connect and follow-up with leads to create troops and/or in helping to place youth and adults in existing troops  
  • Routinely recruit and connect with community volunteers to collaborate with them on their plans for adult volunteer support and local recruitment opportunities which will include youth programming support and adult engagement through a variety of methods such as; in person or virtual meetings, cell phone and text communications, email, etc. 
  • Execute interdepartmental campaigns, strategies and pilot projects   
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies for assigned areas using various tactics  
  • Follow and improve upon defined processes that nurture and support new leaders, community volunteers, troops and adult members that leads to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Girl Outcomes  
  • Coordinate and contribute to department and cross-departmental, council-wide, regional and local efforts and events for recruiting new members and retention, improving and expanding adult and youth engagement 
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers, community partners, and Girl Scout colleagues   
  • Support adult volunteers through training and coaching, responding to questions, problem solving, resolving conflict, etc.  
  • Set goals, plan and execute engagement and support strategies; monitor individual progress for member recruitment, troop formation and retention; adapt strategies and specific activities to help achieve individual and department recruitment and retention goals   
  • Create, adapt and execute an individual plan of weekly, monthly and quarterly work that focuses on the activities that positively produce the desired results for local communities and council including achieving target youth, adult and troop goals for assigned areas 

 

Skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to: 

  • Relationship Building: Ability to recruit, organize, network, and build relationships with community partners, community audiences at large, existing volunteers and co-workers. 
  • Public Speaking: Excel at large and small group presentations and possess facilitation skills (In-person and virtual)  
  • Recruitment: actively seek out, engage with, and establish bonds with new leads to convert them into members 
  • Marketing: Proficient in various marketing tactics, digital and grassroots 
  • Project Management: Territory and project planning and management, including reporting and data analysis 
  • Organization: Daily calendaring & self-led time management 
  • DEBI: Ability to work with diverse audiences, utilize conflict management mediation and problem-solving skills

Requirements: 

  • 1-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 1 year in volunteer support and/or customer service experience 
  • Ability to work from home with internet connection available through high-speed internet or cell phone data WIFI connection 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, and prioritize in a fast-paced, changing environment while supporting teams of adult volunteers 
  • Ability to thrive with a fluctuating schedule, combining in-person activities & virtual meetings across the assigned territory and work from home and/or a local office, consistent evenings and weekend duties   
  • Valid California driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and proof of insurance 
  • Proficient in cloud-based applications such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) or Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)  
  • Able to pass Girl Scouts of Northern California’s background screening process (including criminal, education, social security and Department of Motor Vehicle verification)  
  • Ability work with diverse communities, independently and as a member of a team 

 

Physical requirements:  

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35lbs (boxes, materials, equipment), including loading and unloading bins, totes, boxes and pop-up in and out of a vehicle 
  • Possess endurance including prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching 

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of Girl Scout mission and programs 
  • Bilingual in Spanish, or other language, and English 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study 
  • Confidence in using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as: Salesforce or Zoho-Bigin 
  • Confidence in using digital design applications such as: Canva or Publisher
