Pay Rate: $23 – $25/hour

Position Overview
Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Advancement team as a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator ensures that smooth, day-to-day volunteer operations provide impactful and positive volunteer experiences at JFS. The coordinator will also help educate various stakeholders about the many meaningful ways to support the work of JFS and make a positive impact in our community. This position reports directly to the Director of Community & Volunteer Engagement and works closely with marketing and many program staff across the agency.
Responsibilities:
- Support and guide JFS program staff in developing impactful volunteer roles that support their core, emerging, and critical program needs
- Recruit and onboard new and diverse community volunteers; Manage and retain ongoing volunteers; Re-engage previous volunteers
- Respond professionally and in a timely manner to daily JFS email and phone inquiries regarding volunteer and community engagement opportunities
- Maintain integrity of volunteer database by entering and updating accurate information.
- Ensure Volunteer Engagement policies and procedures are followed in accordance with HIPAA and applicable HR guidelines
- Screen and onboard new volunteers through phone screens and completion of all required paperwork
- Facilitate volunteer orientations, campus tours, and Volunteer Engagement workshops
- Track volunteer hours throughout the agency to report on measurable impact
- Address volunteer challenges, complaints, or disciplinary needs, while consulting on and elevating any issues involving legal risks, safety, or donor and partner relationships to supervisor
- Present to community groups, service organizations, corporations, and educational institutions about the wide range of volunteer opportunities at JFS
- Represent JFS at community fairs, events, and community meetings to promote JFS services and volunteer opportunities, and to build relationships
- Update and record changes to volunteer positions on JFS volunteer database and external sites
- Assist Lead Coordinator with group volunteers for our annual large-scale needs, and other episodic events
- Contribute to the development of volunteer communications and annual Volunteer Appreciation Month activities
- Collaborate with Programs, Development, and Marketing to ensure efficient shared workflows and consistent messaging to community
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Previous experience with volunteer and donor databases, Galaxy Digital and/or Raiser’s Edge or equivalent
- Previous experience working with or managing volunteers
- 1-2 years’ experience customer service in professional setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in teams, including internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and remain on schedule towards goals; Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to not only carry out instructions, but also anticipate next steps and needs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Availability to work at scheduled weekend and/or evening events, as needed
- Must have own reliable vehicle and automobile insurance
Additional Information Required Upon Hire:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience is required
