WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP)
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Alternative Services - Oregon, Inc., you will play a vital role in promoting community inclusion for individuals with disabilities. You will have the opportunity to support and empower individuals to actively participate in community activities, social events, and educational opportunities. From accompanying individuals to local parks, museums, and recreational centers to assisting them in joining clubs or groups of their interest, you will help foster a sense of belonging and connection. By promoting community inclusion, you will contribute to enhancing the quality of life for the individuals we serve and help them build meaningful relationships within their community. WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
To be successful as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Alternative Services - Oregon, Inc., certain skills and qualities are essential. First and foremost, empathy and a genuine desire to help others are crucial. You must be able to connect with individuals with disabilities and understand their unique needs and challenges. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are also important for effectively communicating with the individuals you will be supporting, as well as with other team members and stakeholders.
The ability to be patient, compassionate, and adaptable is key, as you will be working with individuals with varying abilities and personalities. Additionally, strong problem-solving and decision-making skills will enable you to navigate any challenges or unexpected situations that may arise. Finally, being a team player and having a positive attitude will contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment. While specific software or tools are not required for this position, basic computer literacy and proficiency in using electronic documentation systems may be beneficial.
