Position:VITA Program Assistant
Program: MAOF Community Development Department (Los Angeles County)
Salary: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
Status: Non-exempt, Temporary
Reports To: Program Director, Supervisor and/or designee
DEFINITION
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Assistant will provide support with all activities relating to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program such as but not limited to completing intakes, preparing taxes, general office support and outreach.
Responsibilities:
- Punctuality and overall consistent and excellent attendance are a must.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Assess and ensure clients meet eligibility requirements for the program.
- Review and verify client has all documentation before receiving assistance.
- Ensure that all taxpayers complete all required forms and interview clients to determine if all income, deductions, and allowable credits are claimed.
- Assist walk-ins with questions and inquiries.
- Interview clients to obtain information needed for tax preparation.
- File and store documents accordingly.
- Must prepare basic and advance tax return (training provided)
- As assigned, compiles data and provides information for reports and surveys.
- Assist site coordinator and/or designee with any special tasks or events.
- Assist the program director in maintaining the documentation necessary for the program, and funding source as required by the contract.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
- Assist in coordinating tax workshops and events.
- Answer phones, schedule appointment and relay messages.
- Assists the department with various projects and/or special projects.
- Always maintain confidentiality.
- Assists or prepares correspondence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
- Familiarity with delivery of services which are mindful of different cultural and language traditions, showing respect and validation for communities. Sensitive and confidential to the needs of the clients and the community served.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work a non-traditional work schedule. Evenings and weekends are required.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites across Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino County to provide services.
- Computer literate in Office Software (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.).
- Must have a valid California driver license, have own motor vehicle at all times and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.
- Ability to speak, read, analyze, and interpret information.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, and the general public.
- Good public speaking and presentation skills. Must be bilingual, English and Spanish.
