The Department of Teacher Education at Purdue University Fort Wayne is excited to invite applications for a nine-month Visiting Assistant Professor position that begins in August 2024. We are seeking applicants who demonstrate instructional practices that emphasize diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging. The successful applicant will instruct undergraduate-level courses in the social foundations of education, as well as additional education courses for preservice teachers.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out the following duties:
- teach 12 credit hours of undergraduate courses per semester, including but not limited to social foundations of education, introduction to the teaching profession, and other courses dependent upon expertise;
- supervise students in corresponding field experiences; and
- contribute to service at the department, college/school, university, and community levels.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop or continue an active agenda of research, scholarship, and/or creative endeavor.
Applicants for the position must demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Foundations or a related field (ABD to be considered, provided doctoral degree is earned prior to employment);
- three years of classroom teaching experience, grades pK-12; and
- a desire to build relationships with students and colleagues.
Applicants with the following prior experiences are of particular interest to the search committee:
- worked with first-generation students in higher education;
- engaged in trauma-informed instruction or assessment;
- engaged in online and in-person teaching modalities;
- worked with diverse populations; and
- demonstrated effort to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion, and sensitivity to the needs of underserved and/or underrepresented groups in P-12 settings.
The Department of Teacher Education, which is housed in the School of Education at Purdue University Fort Wayne, is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including research, teaching and service/engagement, and is committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and socially just community.
