Come join our team. DeKalb County’s Prosecutor’s Office (located in Auburn, Indiana) seeks to fill the newly created position of Victim Assistance Specialist who will play an important role in protecting and assisting victims of crime in our community.
Under the general direction of the Prosecuting Attorney, the qualified candidate provides a full range of services necessary to implement the Victims Assistance Program:
- Maintains calendar of court dates involving victims/witnesses
- Notifies victims/witnesses of upcoming court dates
- Updates victims/witnesses files and related computer system
- Maintains all communication with victims/witnesses
- Assists victims/witnesses in obtaining needed services and assistance
- Responds to telephone inquiries about cases, court and investigation matters as appropriate
- Attends Court proceedings and depositions with victims
Successful candidate must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED; however, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or Social Work is preferred with specialized knowledge of social work and counseling areas related to crime victims. Knowledge of the County court system, related legal terminology and requirements and the ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks and operations is required. Effective communication and confidentiality are MUSTS. A valid Driver’s License and willing to subject to background check/motor vehicle report required.
