X4 is focused on restoring healthy immune system function by developing novel therapeutics to treat chronic neutropenic disorders, including WHIM syndrome, a rare primary immunodeficiency. We are advancing a novel, late-stage clinical candidate, mavorixafor, that we believe has the potential to become a new standard of care for patients with these disorders. The VP Value and Access is a member of the commercial leadership team and has the mandate to ensure that our products are accessible to the rare disease communities who need them.
The VP is accountable for leading the development and execution of an integrated US market access strategy and tactical plan to appropriately optimize and sustain pricing, access, and reimbursement of X4’s products with an initial focus on mavorixafor in WHIM syndrome.
In addition, the VP will also lead the development and execution of EU and other ex-US payer access and pricing strategies as required. This involves timing of specific country plans to coordinate with regulatory filings and the evaluation of commercialization partnership opportunities.
The VP will also provide oversight of ongoing commercial alliances and act as the key point of contact for regional distributor partners.
This individual is expected to develop strong internal relationships within X4 as well as externally with payers, commercial distributor partners, and other key stakeholders.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute effective US payer engagement plans and market access initiatives aiming to secure broad and timely reimbursement of mavorixafor in WHIM syndrome.
- Drive cross-functional efforts with Sales, Marketing, Commercial Operations, and Medical teams to remove reimbursement barriers and support the adoption of mavorixafor in WHIM syndrome.
- Establish and manage the US channel strategy and distribution network to ensure that HCPs and eligible patients have clear and easy access to mavorixafor in WHIM syndrome.
- Oversee a high touch patient HUB to ensure US patients feel supported during their experience with X4 and its approved therapies.
- Lead the development of global value dossiers as well as cost-effectiveness and budget impact models, plans for early HTA assessments, or value framework reports.
- Collaborate with colleagues across functions including Marketing, Medical and Patient Affairs, to drive health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) activities whilst developing deliverables that communicate value based on reliable evidence and data.
- Initially lead the development of in-country Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Pricing & Reimbursement submissions for mavorixafor.
- Develop and recommend global pricing and contracting strategies that support ongoing product access and optimize corporate profitability.
- Develop optimal payer strategies for potential follow-on indications of mavorixafor.
- Build and lead a high-functioning market access organization, including internal and outsourced teams, that collaborates with X4 cross-functional team members, external consultants, vendors, and partners.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as adherence to corporate policies in market access activities and communications.
- Evaluate threats and opportunities in key markets rising out of legislation and regulation from government and/or private payers that can impact access of X4’s products and pipeline and proactively develop strategies and plans to address the evolving reimbursement environment.
- Collaborate closely with the senior leadership team to align market access strategies with the company’s growth objectives.
- Provide market access and pricing evaluations in support of business development opportunities.
- Geographically expand patient access to mavorixafor by identifying early access opportunities and recommending regional distributors to represent X4 in select markets.
- Manage ongoing commercial alliances, including organizing regular training and communication meetings with external partners, coordinating across relevant X4 departments, and resolving issues to ensure efficient operations in support of X4 objectives.
Requirements: Proven Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Bachelors' degree required; MBA preferred.
- 15+ years' experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with deep expertise in value pricing, reimbursement, and patient access, specifically in rare/orphan or specialty therapeutics.
- A strong understanding of the US and Ex-US healthcare systems, including the legal and regulatory environments is required.
- Demonstrated US managed markets/customer segment knowledge, inclusive of all major payer and commercial channels {MCOs/PBMs, retail pharmacy and wholesale distributors, Medicare, Medicaid), as well as a solid understanding of the working of the specialty pharmacy and patient HUB model.
- Demonstrated success in product launch market access including analytical and strategic skills with an entrepreneurial insight and a pragmatic, hands-on approach.
- Strong track record in market access, HTAs, and pricing and reimbursement across global markets with understanding of the interdependencies across the geographies.
- Experience leveraging ex-US early access mechanisms is an advantage as is previous alliance management roles.
- Effective project management skills in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
- Strong and respectful verbal and written communication as well as presentation skills.
- Ability to travel up to 35%.
This position is based in Boston, MA, and offers a flexible hybrid work model with a minimum of 2 days/week in the office.
