Job Description Summary:
The VP, Global Partnering Strategy and Operations Head / Chief of Staff (CoS) reports into the EVP, Chief Business Officer (CBO) and is a member of the Global Partnering & External Innovation (GPEI) Leadership Team (GPEI LT). The candidate supports and partners with the EVP to ensure the successful delivery of key corporate objectives; via the effective definition of strategy; timely operational implementation and effective interactions and communication. The candidate partners with the CBO to establish, engage and strengthen the Global Partnering (GP) team, establish and improve the communication strategy internally and externally, manage the budget of the group, review and improve processes. The candidate also monitors and provides analysis and recommendations on Ipsen's Venture Capital (VC) investments and leads special projects (e.g. Global and cross-functional) where the GP strengths can be leveraged.
Specifically, the role requires partnership with core functions within Ipsen such as R&D, Legal, HR, Finance, Strategy, Business Unit Leads, Value & Access, Marketing, CMC, Sales & Business Operations; coordination of and preparation for key internal and external meetings; and proactive management of the interfaces (senior company's leadership and core functions) to enhance execution and delivery for Business Development.
The VP, Global Partnering Strategy and Operations Head is in charge of the Ipsen governance for due diligence assessment and acquisition approval. He/she is responsible for ensuring that the due diligence processes are adequate and support a streamlined decision-making process. He/she is in charge of monitoring any deals and is responsible for coordinating prioritization in full alignment with Ipsen ambition.
This role manages the CBO Office team and works in close collaboration with the Executive Assistant to the CBO.
As the organization transforms, it is imperative that business critical decisions are taken confidentially, and in a timely and appropriate manner. It is the role of the Global Partnering Strategy & operations Head to enable and facilitate business processes and decisions to become best operational practice at Ipsen.
Main Responsibilities/Job Expectations:
Projects 50%
  • Strategize the deals management to ensure Ipsen will deliver its ambition and annual objectives in terms of asset, company acquisition and/or partnership.
  • Develop and lead Ipsen's governance for due diligence assessment and acquisition approval
  • Build comprehensive understanding of all core business functions of Ipsen's organization and apply that knowledge to effectively manage strategic and tactical initiatives according to our vision
  • Contribute to the development of the deal making culture across Ipsen organization
  • Connect at all levels of Ipsen Group (R&D, TechOps, Finance, etc.) as appropriate
  • Identify in a proactive way all issues that impact successful execution of business objectives and decide upon timely escalation for resolution
  • Share recommendations and give feedback to the CBO
  • Resolve conflict to enable effective decisions, through ability to influence others, objectivity, and supporting data/insights
  • Develop and implement different negotiation strategies and tactics depending on circumstances to deliver win-win outcomes across functions
  • Encourage the empowerment of individuals and teams

Leadership 20%
  • Build comprehensive understanding of all core business functions of Ipsen's organization and apply that knowledge to effectively manage strategic and tactical initiatives according to our vision

Governance & Communications 30%
  • Lead organization of Chief Business Office meetings to ensure effective use of time, promote quality of decision making, focus on critical topics, and follow-up to actions noted Directly prepare CBO for upcoming management meetings, internal (e.g. Town Hall, Board of Directors, GLT meetings) and/or external discussions and liaise with Ipsen subject matter experts to prepare presentations (e.g., Conferences, Interviews, Investor Roadshows)
  • Prepare the agenda and ensure the timely preparation, review and communication of slide decks for the Deal Review Board (DRB) in close collaboration with the CBO's SVP/VPs
  • Ensure timely delivery of minutes and monitor action plans
  • Define key messages to be cascaded across the organization as appropriate
  • Lead activities to strengthen Ipsen's external image as Partner and coordinate the contracts negotiation, organization and attendance to main partnering events (JP Morgan, BIO International, BioEurope, etc.)
  • Liaise with Corporate communications teams for internal and external communications (e.g. Partnering pitch books

Knowledge, Abilities & Experience:
Education / Certifications:
  • Advanced post-graduate degrees including Masters, Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology or Medicine ideal; Master's in Finance or MBA desirable

Experience:
  • Minimum of 15 years+ experience in the pharmaceutical industry with experience in leadership roles, especially in matrix environments and global environments
  • Experience in growing mid-size pharma environments
  • Thorough understanding of business development organization
  • Seasoned and influential professional able to lead complex projects
  • Good planning, analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent leading, influencing & communication skills
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working alone or as part of a larger team
  • Experience working on and leading Global teams

Languages:
  • English required, French is a plus

Ipsen US Pay Range Disclosure Language
The annual base salary range for this position is $251,250-$368,500.
This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentives program as well as our long-term incentives program.

The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting.
