Job Description:
We are actively recruiting for a dynamic Vice President, Corporate Counsel to join our growing legal team in Newark. As the VP, you will report directly to our Associate General Counsel responsible for Broadridge’s employment law & litigation matters. In this role, you will partner closely with Broadridge’s Human Resources department and leaders across our organization. You’ll provide legal counsel and strategic advice to our firm on employment law and related matters, human resources policies, procedures, agreements, and other documentation related to human resources and workforce management. This includes but is not limited to providing counsel and direction related to areas of recruiting, hiring, performance, discipline and separations, internal investigations, leaves of absence, employee relations, discrimination, harassment, workplace privacy, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenant compliance, contingent and temporary worker matters, and employment matters risk management, among others.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • You will serve as the subject matter authority in all areas of federal and state (including California) employment laws, including Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ADEA, WARN and OSHA, among others.
  • You will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment practices laws, rules and regulations.
  • You will provide strategic legal counsel and risk management advice to management and HR.
  • You will execute on a wide variety of HR and employment practices matters, including in respect of recruiting, hiring, performance, discipline and separations (voluntary and involuntary), internal investigations, leaves of absence, employee relations, discrimination, harassment, workplace privacy, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenant compliance, contingent worker matters, regulatory compliance and employment matters risk management.
  • You will conduct internal investigations in respect of allegations of violations of company policies and employment laws, interpreting and providing guidance on employment-related contract provisions, ensuring restrictive covenant compliance, drafting, and negotiating a variety of employment-related agreements, and responding to all manner of inquiries from management and HR relating to employment matters daily, among other activities.
  • You will monitor and assess the impact of legal and regulatory developments and implementation trends at a state and federal level.
  • You will counsel management and HR on new or pending federal and state legislation, laws, rules and regulations.
  • You will efficiently lead outside counsel with an eye toward minimizing outside counsel expense and meeting budget.
  • You will provide substantive support for the rest of the Legal team as needed, including strategic transactions.
  • You will engage in or lead various other Legal projects and duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • You are licensed to practice law in NY or NJ and are a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent, meaningful, and broad employment litigation experience, as well as significant advice and counsel experience in a major law firm, large in-house setting or equivalent (required)
  • Proven knowledge of state and federal employment discrimination and other employment-related statutes, as well as common law employment claims (required)
  • Experience handling full range of employment issues, including performance management, employee discipline, termination, severance, workplace investigations, policy development, employment agreements, FLSA, FMLA, wage and hour issues, workplace accommodations, applications, training, and incentive pay
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle high volume and balance opposing demands (required)
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships; be an effective influencer (required)
  • Ability to work independently and as a team (required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (required)
  • Experience advising and working on commercial transactions/litigation (preferred)
